How much is there?

Also, do you care about the rivers? Veldmaarschalk theorizes that removing them would have no effect on gameplay. Of course, rivers would no longer show up (as their own province), and the map would look somewhat weird (as the grayscale would reflect some province other than the bluish river), but province ids would be freed up and compatibility with HoI/Victoria might be maintained.

is it possible to make the all rivers/lakes as one (or two-three) ID provinces? Like it was done in EUII map projects?
Haven't studied ck lightmaps in detail, don't know. It depends on how the 4-bit river flag is done, whether it looks in the river province adjacent or original province adjacencies

But since it seems similar to eu2 format, I would assume so.

But do you care about those rivers?

Since rivers have no effect -- no. They don't have (much of/) a purpose.

Can we edit the map then? I have never seen a working map mod for CK. Even if we had free IDs, it might therefore not help.
Supposing map editing works -- we can free up quite a few IDs by merging the western Atlantic seazones.

I don't know anything from anything, but do rivers impact province movement? It often seems to me that is so, but that might be a function within the provinces, and not of the rivers.

Also, put me down as interested in a map editor. I have some XP in map/# theory, and am dreaming of a day where 'random' maps are a possibility

Installed them and then started the game

Didn't encounter any problems, in fact I didn't notice anything different. Othen then that the map looks a bit more stretched. But that can just be my imagination.

Anything I have to look out for, for testing ?

Don't think so

Except for one thing: Rivers sometimes have a white line in the middle, if there is no border line drawn through. This is (probably) because the new lightmaps do not have the river index set

Well those white-lines weren't really noticable. Though when I hoovered my mouse over them I still got a pop-up of the names, is that correct ?

That is what is expected to happen, though not perfect behavior.

Also, for anyone interested, here is a BETA of MapViewer and MapMaker

The viewer crashes as soon as I start it, and the editor... I've read the info RTFs but I don't get how to use it.

Looking forward to it, I'm really interested in a map editor for CK!

Instructions for use and troubleshooting

Also perhaps you should download CK's settings.txt file here

I've deleted from the map the misspelled Tyrrhenian Sea and replaced it with an important dummy text!

Anyway, to get this result I've used (IE, inserted in the game "map" directory) the MapMaker's generated lightmaps (1-2-3) only, because the game reported me an error log when I used all the MapMaker's generated files.
I've done all of this with utility 1.1.2 on the latest CK-DV (beta)patch, and tried with and without step 4 in MapMaker.

So you tried index.tbl, boundbox.tbl, and adjacent.tbl, swapping them in one at a time, and none of them worked?

Does the new tiles.bmp look the same as the old?

No, firstly I've used all of the generated files, then -because of the crash- I've tried to use the lightmap only, and it worked.

New tiles.bmp looks empty (I've not tried in game, I've looked at it as it is).
