Here are my immediate ideas how to improve the city interface so it's easier and less frustrating to handle. Feel free to add to the list. I hope devs will cherry-pick at least a few of those.
- It would be far more comfortable to use Port View if right clicking a window there would close it. This way our mouse wouldn't have to make long trips all the way up to the "X" and back to the bottom panel. It could be applied to the Ledger and event windows on strategic level too.
- It would also be extremely good if we could use buttons F1-F6 to open various port view windows. For example press F1 and F4 to open Fleets and Trade Post screens very fast, press F4 again to close trade post (or right click!) and press F3 to open Docks. And so on. It would speed up navigating there and would save a lot of mouse movement.
- It would be good too if the game remembered our last settings so if we leave a port on Fleets and Trade Post, it should be the same when we go back to it. Player visits city screen of his home port hundreds of times per game, in later stages usually for ship-building and re-assigning ships to Fleets. Leaving screen at Docks + Fleet would save thousands of clicks per game.
- It would be helpful if game didn't pause in port screen but went on in the background. Would allow to spend more time there without having your ships stop. You still could press Space to pause the game and prevent fleets from leaving.
- When there's a window that requires a confirmation, for example ship's name screen, how about allowing to confirm with Enter button so we don't have to move the mouse all the way up to "Confirm".
- There should be a way to drag&drop amount of goods you want to drag&drop. A small window should pop-up asking for amount. Can set it to ctrl+shift + mouse for example.
- When you assign a ship to a fleet and window pops up to ask for its name... there's no way to cancel. Everyone can drag a wrong ship over to a fleet and it would help if name screen acted as confirmation screen allowing to cancel.
- When building ships, allow us to shift+click build button to immediately add 5 ships of that kind to the queue. Saves four clicks per each fleet built.
- When watching Fleet screen, there should be a way to drag&drop and rearrange ships inside one fleet for different order. I would like my Frigates to be the first and the last one in a formation keeping East Indiamen in the middle between them but I can't.
Okay, that's it for now.
