Damn, this game is noisy. Battles rock my house with booming cannons and rifle shots, ear shattering yells and loud fanfare. Nice, but way too loud. Ok, so I go to Options and there's a slider from 0-100 for 'SFX Volume'.
Doesn't work on my system. I can slide it anywhere from 0 to 100 and the sound stays exactly the same. Is this a known bug, is there a workaround?

Sure, I can quit the game and go back to my desktop and lower the sound, but then all my other sound settings are screwed up. That's the point of an ingame relative sound control. What's annoying is that even if I slide to 0
to turn OFF all sound effects, it has no effect. Everything is still as loud as ever.

The other annoying thing is the jittery mouse. I'm on a P3 1ghz with 256mb and GeForce2. My mouse jitters around nervously as I move it around the screen, particularly in busy scenarios, making it difficult to select small
granular things like those *tiny* OK buttons. Is this normal?

Have I missed some major control panel somewhere or is there really no control over screen resolution, color depth, sound density, etc., mouse behaviors, etc. I know the focus here is on the gameplay, but frankly I'm
finding these problems very distracting of the gameplay.

Any ideas?

Regnor...I have encountered all the problems you mentioned. Have found one solution for the game speed. Try CTL and the +/- button on the keypad, it seems to work. No idea on the others, especially the sound. Almost woke up the kids last night. :(

With regard to sound settings,
it seems to work with most soundcards allright, but I've got the same problem.
My solution was very simple, just use the volume device on the speakers themselves. Works fine for me.

Interesting.

Ok, well I'm gonna help out our Danish breakfast-friend here just a mite. The sound settings work perfectly well on all three of my machines, and I experience no 'jittery mouse' except on one of the lower capacity machines with limited RAM or on a temporary basis for a few moments at game start in SOME cases when I escaped out of the beginning graphic scenes.

I have seen some sound problems with GE Force cards before in not only this forum but in other games... Sorry but it looks to be problematic with drivers. There MAY be an updated driver that could help, but sounds like you have a pretty recent machine so that may not help. Personally, I avoid them. Creative makes great cards, that simply is a more problematic one.

I also experience the jittery mouse problem. It makes it very difficult to click the pause alarm clock.

Unfortunately my Pause Button doesn't work on my keyboard, so I need to hit that on screen clock.

For pausing - try the pause/break key, located above the cursor keys...

For the ctrl +, use the numpad keys, not the ones above the main block.

For lost teeth, I know a good dentist.

For coffee addiction, I sell self-hypnosis kits for the inredible price of $20, and you get a useful 3-in-one coat hanger as well. Call Now!

For loud sounds that cant be turned down... I sugge.......

GODDAMIT, I NEED SOME SLEEP! One more class to go and then Sweet, sweet, sweeeeet bed!

Regarding keyboard problems

Hi.

Just wanted to add a thought on the keyboard issue. It could be related to conversion between
different localized keyboards, but I find that unlikely as that probably is generic and not hard-coded.
But then again it could be. I know I had some problems in the past with some games that did not
support non-US keyboards (i.e. 102 keyboards when they were new) as they did not use Windows
drivers for keyboard input. But that should not be the case with EU, I'm quite sure. Ah, never mind
this post.. or maybe it's a stange UNICODE problem.. ah.. best to check with Johan.

'I have a theory about the dinosaurs.. and it's mine!'

Ps. I haven't played EU for a while now (computer crash) but I'm quite sure that you don't have to press
CTRL - + to increase the spead. I always press +/- to the right of the NUMPAD. Though it could have
beeen changed for the US/UK versions. Ds.

More on Interface issues

From what I can tell from others, I'm not alone in either of these problems. I'm using the Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1 card with the most recent drivers so I'm surprised and disappointed that the game isn't working with this card. There was a comment about my machine being 'new', and it is, but I built it myself and I'm very familiar with all the components. All reliable equipment, latest drivers, etc.

The newsgroups and this forum show many messages from others having the same problem and there are several reports of crashing bugs. I think it's just not quite stable. Hopefully it will evolve to become more stable as it's a very intriguing design and I'm actually enjoying the learning curve. ;->

There was another suggestion about turning the speaker controls down. Unfortunately, that's not a realistic option for me since my speakers don't have volume controls and the power amps aren't that accessible. That's the point to having an in-game sound control, to avoid having to reset your system settings.

I'm also puzzled by the mixed reports from some people who are having the same jittery mouse problem and others who are not. I wonder what the connection here is? I'm using the MSFT IntelliEye mouse.

Again, not knocking the game, I'm enjoying it. I just wish I didn't have to worry about waking up the whole house every time I play!

Hey guys! Don’t you know how to press '+' on main key-block? You need to press SHIFT otherwise you are pressing '='. Let me repeat that Ctrl+Shift+'+ key on the main block' increases the speed. Dah!

Well that's pretty stupid!

Well that's pretty stupid. Most games that use the +/= and -/_ keys just map to the key themselves, not the actual symbol. So to have to do CTRL-SHIFT-'+'/'-' is not very optimized. A 3-key Hotkey is not very Hot, if you know what I mean.

I get the same problem, I use a SBLive X-Gamer with latest updates (I think that's what that flashing globe does) ;) The damn SFX Slider doesn't work. I even had to stand up and turn the volume knob down on my subwoofer. ('Cause I didn't want to exit the game to accesss Creative Mixer)

Now I'm not getting a jittery mouse. That problem might be related to some mouse MRP (memory resident program) like something for Microsoft Intellimouse. IIRC, there was a problem with this in Combat Mission, but once that MRP was disabled, the problem clears up.

No. I went skimming through the manual, and to my shriggren (sp?) there is no section in there that describes the user interface. Now I've never seen a game manual that at least doesn't do that.

Ctrl +/- (using the +/- on the number pad) works fine for me. Make sure NumLock is set. Haven't tried the +/- on the keyboard, though my guess is that won't work because the - is lower case and the + is upper case. Just use the number pad.

I cannot adjust the game speed on the main block, no matter what combination of <shift>, <ctrl> and whatever else. It works just fine on the Num pad though.
