Playing the North American version of EU, on the Tutorial scenario I had no trouble building transports and moving troops around, but last night when I started my first serious scenario I had a very unusual problem.

I was playing Spain, and built transport ships so I could expand into Africa. As my ships completed I clicked on their ports and directed them to one of the sea zones in the Mediterranean Sea. The red arrow showed up, and it turned green as usual to show the ships progress, but when the bar went all green, no ship! The only thing I can see is the selection oval around the ship. If I click where the ship should be it selects the sea zone, not the ship and the selection oval disappears. The only time I can see the ship at all is when attrition reduces the ship total to zero, then I can see the sinking ship animation.

My system is a Gateway Pentium III, 750Mhz, 256Mb RAM, Creative Geforce II GTS 32Mb, Creative SB Live! Value, and about 18Gb free disk space.

Any help for this problem?

More Info

I have a zip file containing 2 save games, one from 1492 where I can produce ships and see them after they are produced, the other from 1495 where all ships are invisible. Is there an e-mail address where I can get these to Paradox?

When I did the game install I also installed DirectX 8.0. Yesterday I also upgraded my video driver from the nVidia site and tried turning video acceration down to minimum. Neither of these things worked, the 1495 save agme still produces invisible ships.

I loaded the 1492 save game and played it through to 1505 and the problem did not recur.

*Bump*

Is anyone from Paradox reading this?

BTW, I loaded another game tonight, last night when it was saved I could see my ships, tonight they are invisible. WHAT IS GOING ON!?!

It's very frustrating trying to play a game when I have to go back to my initial save each evening!

Are you sure you are on the 'normal' map mode?

I ask because I would sometimes try to spot my fleets when I was in the trade screen and units don't show when the trade or diplomacy screens are active.

Yes, I am certain I was in normal map mode. I was able to select the port where a ship was, move it into a sea zone and watch the red line change from red to green indicating the ship's progress. But when it got to the zone the ship was invisible. (only the selection oval around the ship was visible)

Oops!

Boy, do I feel foolish!

Even after Yrth pointed out that I had to be in normal map mode to see my ships I still didn't realize that in the offending save game files I was viewing the political map.

I finally realized my mistake tonight after starting a brand new game (as Spanish), sending Colombus off to discover 'the West Indies' ;), going about some political business and then checking back on the expidition, they were GONE! Then I finally figured it out.

So, I guess I have no problem after all. Thanks Yrth!!!

No problem. Glad I could help. Those disappearing ships happened to me too because when you are out on the ocean, away from land, it is easy to forget what mode you had the map on. The trading map was doing it for me.
