Is anyone actually making new models for the game and trying to add new buildings?
If the answer is yes, what exactly are you working on and plan to add?

I made this post as I'm surprised we have not got any new buildings yet, even basic stuff like some walls or fences to place outside the domes or better-looking depots.

It takes quite a bit of effort and I'm pretty sure not that many people are interested. The gameplay lacks a certain depth that Cities Skylines has and there's not much documentation for the advanced stuff people wish to implement.

Shame really, the game has a lot of potential. I also noticed there is a lack of documentation on modding. This was my biggest fear with the game. The thing that made this game worth the price to me was modding support and if no good mods get made will be a huge disappointment. I'm hoping the devs release the full LUA's for modders and explain in more detail how the modding works. The "Surviving Mars Modding" document we currently have is not all that helpful. I just hope with time we will see some new assets and content added by modders.

Cities has depth? For me, after 300 hours of gameplay it's just place zones, await, places more zones and deal with the bad IA of transit

Which is a bit more than creating resources, waiting and then dealing with bad colonist/drone AI. Expanding feels a lot better in that game anyhow, domes are just really limited playhouses in contrast to having an open landscape.

been trying to import some custom models i've made for cities skylines into the game, so far for some reason the game never displays them. I only get a small black cube (sometimes) but never my mesh. and the Moodtoosl don't say why. I even would like to now why the blender files are not ate the 0,0,0, axis there is no info about it. So hopefully will get something soon if i keep brute forcing it somehow lol.

Naming conventions for textures and such are not explicitly especified either, LOD stuff either... very vague.

DEVS please we implore you, release at least some minimal explanation on how to prep prep meshes and why would they not show up. :( I've been following what is provided as examples and its either those black cubes or no mesh at all.

And if possible give us another alternative than using blender to export :S I don't personally use blender for my stuff so i'm having to figure out a new software kinda pita too :(

an exporter that uses something else other than blend files? :p

Yeah, I'm no artist so I have no idea about 3D models and was just curious, hence the post. Thanks for the update and info though. We have a modding discord with one of the devs in it. I don't think he knows much about the modeling though.

just wanted to share, ive made some advancements here are some pics, This is one of my Cities Skylines Assets im porting into Surviving Mars... after hours of anger and fiddling this is what i have in

this is a common problem with the mod editor, i have the same problem off an on, with that happening too, and that's just the ingame models nothing fancy like i presume your trying to do.. if it doesnt work first time, just keep trying, what i do when it happens is delete the mod and redo it. and it usually works.. i think the mod editor is a bit of a drama queen lol.

Yeah the editor is a drama queen, but that queen seems to be working for me now :p .. So far i managed to banish that horrible cube. The cube seems to be a placeholder when something goes wrong, maybe with a missing texture or something of the sort.

Nice progress mate. I'm happy you guys are getting somewhere with models as I would love to see some basic walls and fences. I'm sure this will get done in the near future.

Thanks Mate, Im sticking at to what i know a bit better 3d and pretty stuff :p ,but Probably IMO making walls should user more of the placing wires/pipes code(at least what is what i would do), while using a custom mesh for a wall with proper collision. Honestly my programming skills are very limited, so i've got no idea how to do it ATM :p. Maybe extracting part of the code for that and making a custom one that takes the entity of a wall who knows really.
