I have EU3 HttT and I'm still learning it.

I am considering getting Crusader Kings and I'm wondering if the game play is different from EU 3 or if it is basically the same.

It is quite different actually from any of the other Paradox titles (except Rome which has some of CK's dynasty elements in it).

The main difference is that you are not some almighty being governing a nation. You are the actual ruler of a family/dynasty.

So much of your time is spent on family related issues, such as inheritance, marriage proposals, kids' education etc.

And as you are family first and nation second, you can end up with several king titles, while in EU3 you would just be the same nation.

You are also more or less forced to use vassals, and they act more on their own than they do in EU3.

If you get CK, I would strongly suggest that you also get DV expansion (should be cheap as CK Complete), which adds alot to the game.

Just be aware that the graphics, engine and AI are not on level with the newer PI games, but don't let that discourage you. It is still a great game, and the only one to stay on my harddisk since 2004.

It is quite different, but I'd suggest you give it a try, especially with the game being so cheap since the summer sale.
You may be turned off by graphics, and there are still some wierd things happening even with latest beta patch. Stick with it for a couple of hours, and you may find yourself addicted to it :p
The game is a lot of fun, and many ppl are hoping for CK2.

P.S. There is a good "Let's play Crusader Kings" tutorial on youtube. It contains a lot of info on the gameplay. I know it convinced me to give it a go.
