I'll try. I've got some information that might be helpful for them. Unfortunately, I can't see what the original code is without decompiling (and even then, it only appears as generic code to me that I would have to study to understand) so it's all OUR best guess.

Other than pouring through my usual Windows error logs and memory access, anyone know of a program I can run to log what the .exe is doing exactly?

Ok, so the convoy problem was not reproducible in 3 successive games. This doesn't mean it isn't a problem just that it wasn't a problem then.

What was a problem was the US Navy.

Best guess, in Vanilla HOI2 the USN hardly uses Hawaii, since the AI can go and do pretty much anything it wants to range-wise. But in CORE, y'all put in so many more ships, and some of them are at Pearl Harbor I do believe, and you might, or might not, have range limits implemented for the AI.

Another major slowing factor is the air force AI, especially regarding Japan, America, and Britain. Not so much Germany as the aforementioned three. When coupled with their navies, it produces hella-a lot a commands to be run.

Another factor is that the game balloons out as you play with the USA and USSR (and sometimes Germany depending on the flow of the game) just pumping out massive amounts of units.

Before 1939 it's good, but at that point the AI switches something and a massive build up occurs. Maybe the game references every unit at least once a day to ensure it's "status." I can't tell at this point in time.

Most of these problems you guys can't do anything about as Paradox (in the words of blue emu) is VERY SECRETIVE about the workings "under the hood."

Question though, anyone have a Mac they have tested this out on? Do you get the normal CTDs as well?

Correct - we do have units stationed at Hawaii, and we do have range limitations on ships. And we do appreciate your input in this... It's just that the AI is not really my area of expertise. I would have thought one of the others would have replied by now, but apparently not. This isn't really our main forum, and thus tends to be somewhat neglected at times.

The numbers of extra units does seem to be a limiting factor on the game speed - which isn't entirely surprising, since the game has to check them all every day for supply/oil usage & status, once/day as a minimum. Adding the extra naval units for individual subs/destroyers certainly adds to the number of units significantly in pre-war years, though (as a %age of total units) it is less noticeable later on.
