Threat potential is often more effective than actual activity.

In this case the threat of Italian intervention, is probably just as effective as its actual intervention, and this is true also of the Regia Marina. Someone once said that the Tirpitz did more for the German war effort sitting in port, than the Bismark did sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic, because it tied down substantial Allied naval assets that were needed to make sure it never ventured forth into the Atlantic. This same lesson can apply to the RM in the Mediteranean, where just by existing it holds down a fleet nearly twice its size that can not be sent to the Pacific theater.

Now. I am not entirely convinced that Germany is doomed here. Apparently there was a substantial tank build by Germany in this game, and I should think that might easily effect the outcome of the campaign in Italy. So, I originally proposed a second date for this game on Saturday at 2:00 pm EST or 20:00 CET, do we continue with this game or start afresh?

I am fine with either.

Either or is ok with me. If KT wants a restart now knowing his mistakes, I am ok with that.

New of course.... :D

2 might be a bit early depending when my saturday game finishes..perhaps 1500 or 1600est? Just throwing that out there....i dont even know how long or if my Saturday game will go thru.

I think Geo also has a say in wether we continue or not.

That said I will take Italy in the next game. I wanted to last game anyway, because I want to figure out what is going on with that, but also wanted to look at what could be done with France.

I have another game on sunday. At least I believe we are starting this sunday.

Well I am totally fine with starting a new one without Geo on Saturday, and then continuing this next wednesday. Why not?

As it is I think we already have the original ongoing saga of the EIR 1.06 on Sunday starting at 20:00 CET, should Geo be available.

So in fact, I am totally down with starting a fresh one on Saturday and continuing it on Sunday morning at 16:00 CET and stopping at 20:00 CET.

If we do start my other game this sunday, it will start at 1000 est. I think that is the same time. In that game I hope to be USA, and for me that trumps all as they are my favorite nation to play. Which is of course why I could never do a "long game" with your rules or hiensen's. The idea of letting the ai butcher my country, and letting the axis rape it for supplies for 4 or 5 years definitely holds no appeal for me.

Well, its much more difficult in this mod to supply exploit anything prior to war because the cancel_deal_threshold is reduced to 1. It is not impossible, but more difficult by a wide margin. It's a shame really that so many players feel forced to do supply exploiting, and that it has become the norm in most MP games. Even those who don't like it, need to do especially the Axis in vanilla, if they are going to have a chance of getting past 1939, and then defeat SU.

Of course making France ai does mean that Germany will win in France, unless they really screw up, but I have yet to play in a game with USA at start that goes past 1942. I played USA in MEM Tuesdays and handily caused the game to end in 1942.

Basicly I played 12 sessions, and ended the game myself before having even played, at all really.

All that really happens when you make USA at start is that you push the Allied power curve up from 1939/1940 to 1941/1942. On top of that there is the fact that an unscrupulous USA can shift the power curve back to 1939/40 by power feeding supplies to UK and France, or even SU.

So the solution is to have a player that actually "roleplays" the usa as they would have acted. Build up your economy/ic(USA was far and away the most industrially powerful nation in the world) and act ISOLATIONIST! You dont subsidize foreign governments, especially the soviet union. Until after danzig building a huge military is way out of character. Do I optimize my research? Absolutely. USA has the most oil, even more then venezuela and UK combined. Why on earth would they waste research on oil techs? Nukes? The game is always over before you can use them. Rockets? Again time frame. Why bother?

You know hitlers advisors wanted germany to wait until 43 to start the war. Has anybody ever thought of moving back all post anschluss events until 43? Then we could play with some high tech toys :D

The point is with this game system is to prevent unatural game play by players who are not as conscientious as you are. There are many out there, and many exploits. Above all, like with the "trading with the enemy" event and the "Industrial and Military co-operation" events between the SU and Germany the idea is to create a game system that tends to force players to play historically, because it is to there advantage to do so, or because the real political dynamics are created by event.

The last game where I was USA, I was put under a lot of preassure by SU and UK to build an army for a continental invasion. It was pretty much necessary to do so because, of course, SU had been gang-banged ahistorically by Japan and Germany. It was either that, or risk losing.

So, the mod is also intended to substantially reduce this dynamic by making a Japanese attack on the SU far less profitable for Axis, and encouraging them to take their role in Asia seriously by acting as a spoiler that prevents early USA/UK landing in europe, rather than forcing it.
