Frankly, looking at that screenshot, I cannot help but feeling that Crusader Kings is located on Mars or some other planet, but certainly not on Mother Earth. The terrain looks appropriate to a game set in the world of Dune than in and around Europe.

I wish it would look more akin to Victoria or what Matrixgames is doing with "Empires in Arms".

This game does look promising. I only wished the terrain would also help creating the right atmosphere to warp me into the Middle Ages.

Remember that the game is still in beta stage.:) Much will probably be changed by release.:)

To be frank, I'd appreciate a VIC-style makeover. When I play England I want pleasant rolling hills and deep forests not a texture like a Formica worktop.

I think it is supposed to look like parchment. I have much higher hopes for this than Victoria. Especially since it's been in development so long. Remember it was announced before HoI. It's been listed in online stores for over a year.

Looks a lot like good ol' board games (HOTW anyone?). The Parchment idea could be right, this would make a very nice graphical feature. I think, the problem is, whether you want to create a good and definitive map of how the world really is, or if you want to create a map which is historical and fits into the time. Boy, if Snwoball'd take a medieval map of the world as template, the game will play kind weird :D

Give me the clean lines of Europa anyday! I hope it doesn't look like Victoria. Victorian Europe is basically green with some black smears denoting mountains, and thin black borders.... bleh

Not like any period map I've ever seen. Jerusalem isn't the center of the map!

I thought "period map" would refer to a map, which shows seasons. Imagine that the colour of the provinces changes during the year. Brownish in autumn (at least here in Europe, propably not in the Levant), white in winter, green in spring and summer...

As most of us already knew, they used some kind of a "season map" in EU2. At least you could see the white snow. It always made me reconsider the invasion of Russia. ;)

BTW, Endre:
Are you the swordsman who was fencing with us inside Bergenhus Fort some years ago?

The one and only(and spearman, and axeman etc). I'm currently in Copenhagen, training with the Ulfhednir Viking group. The 13-14th of december we have a Ringeck/Talhoffer longsword workshop with a Chezh trainer. Were you at the Våpenleik training weekend this autumn?

No, unfortunatly I have not been very active lately. The Kongshirden group has also become so different now. Lots of new members and new trainers. Perhaps I will join them again sometimes, or another fighting group... it all depends.

I know. I found them a bit...wimpy...at Kløfta. They complained a bit of getting speared too hard and so on. It IS a contact sport, you know:D

If you consider shifting groups, and live around Oslo, I'd highly recommend the original Kongshirden, the 1308 guys. That group contains the largest portion of serious historical western martial arts practicioners in Norway. They are also the only ones with any degree of respect among international medieval living historians, and contains some very knowledgeable members. It also happens to be my original group(well, that was pretty obvious).

PM me!
