A quick question, is the 'Øresundstold' as it was called, present in EU?

'Øresundstolden' was a toll all ships had to pay to get past Zealand, as Danish forts (and thus cannons) where able to reach ships sailing through 'Øresund' (Strip of water between Zealand and Sweden). I know this was a BIG benefit to the danish coffers, and should, IMHO, be in this game, as it is so historically accurate! (And also to boost the Danish economy, so I can more easily rid the world of the scum that is Sweden. :D)

And another aspect to take into considering:
It was also reason for great political activity, as not all major powers wished to cough up what was rightfully Danish money.
That too would have effect on the gameplay.

So is it present or not? (Of course it ended when sweden most wrongfully stole Skåne. We have not forgotten, and one day that silly Swedish Skåne accent will be changed into Danish once again! ;))

On a sidenote, I'm not 100% sure it was called 'Øresundstolden'. My brain must be turning into mush from all the computer playing!

Sorry, this is not present in the game.

This would only be of worth if you play Denmark. In this case I am not sure if the AI would react on that. If Denmark is played by the AI this would only be a reason for the others to crush Denmark earlier in the game and to cash in themselves (gold is an important reason).

Ok, thats sad. It was actually quite important to Denmark, and had a big political influence too. Denmark could (and did) control which ships where allowed through.

I thought this game was supposed to be as correct as possible... As Denmark is supposed to be one of the 8 major powers in the danish release, its a little weird if its not in the game?

Eu the CG is based on EU the BG and, since this was not present in the BG at all, nobody thought about it I would guess. In the BG neither Sweden or Denmark was even playable country though both on their own could be quite powerfull minor allies (which allegience where often diplomatically fought over by the player nations). Anyway, when I play as Sweden, Skåne usually dosn't remain Danish for very long anyway ;-)

It's not like it was forgotten when they made the game or anything, it's just that the game doesn't have that kind of detail. This is not a bad thing per se, umm, when you get the game you'll see how it is. The game is a simulation, but it is not a simulation-simulation, if you see what I mean. ;)

Well it's not as glaring an ommission as say the fact that -anyone- can sail across the Bosphorus without controlling Constantinople first. There were two important forts, one on the European the other on the Asian side of the straits, constructed by Ottomans in early to mid 15th century. Notwithstanding its influence on Turkish trade, the absence of a straits zone allows hostile nations to practically ignore Ottoman influence in the region. There are tons of cases in the AARs when Spain, for example, lands troops in Turkish provinces in the Balkans etc. I've been told that it was almost impossible to implement the Straits in EU, so tough luck...

Öresundstullen.... :)

Well actually it _IS_ in the game even if it is in indirectly rather than directly. Both the province of Skåne and the province of Sjaelland have had their trade values boosted far above the normal level thanks to some battlehardened betatesters who brought this topic into the light some half dozen months ago... :p

Ok thanks, I see now. :)

But, will the economic advantages still be in effect, even if Skåne belongs to the swedish and zealand to the Danish? (Just an example)

Im still till waiting for the game, btw...

Yes, the bonuses are connected directly to the ownership of these two provinces. :)

I love that!

May the Danes one day again prosper on our rightfull claim to demand a large sum of money for anyone wishing to go past our country! Maybe we could team up with the Swedes? We did manage to build a bridge together - maybe it could be financed by putting a couple of cannons on top of it and give them orders to fire at all passing ships unless they pay a hefty sum?

Anyway - this is why the game really seems like my kind of thing; its has been made and remade by people who seem to love history as much as me!
