Is it possible for two players to play a MP 1936 Campaign game in the following manner:

Axis: Entire game as Germany with occasional play as Japan or Italy (assuming they are allied and part of Axis). Of course, I understand that when switching to Japan or Italy the Axis player will be leaving the control of Germany to the mercy of the AI. I am hoping at least that if it is just for a month to direct a major offensive that the AI will not mess up things too bad.

Allied: Start as UK. Once USA gets involved then switch to USA. Once again, allowing for a couple of times as a the Russian to direct a large offensive for about a month.

I am assuming that when a game is started up after the latest save different countries can be played.

Is this even feasible? If so, is it practical? In other words, even if you leave the USA or Germany for just a short period (1 month) will you come back to it just to find it not even resembling the country it was. For example, tech trees that you were working on for years simply discontinued and the AI taking the country on a completely different path. I am assuming that if you only leave it for a month that the AI can only do so much "damage".

Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

i believe the techs set up will be finished by the ai... no telling what they will research next though hehe.... as for production i think all you have to do is to fill the prod queue with a long list of good stuff and the ai wont have any impact on that either.

I would think (actually hope) that the AI wouldn't screw up too much of the tech in just one month. If the player breaks away it would just be to conduct the fighting of a major campaign. But, there certainly would be a risk involved to switch sides - even momentarily.

Is the tech piece something the AI quickly goes to?

One more thought. My wife has a laptop. Could a game that was played by 2 people be picked up (after saving the current 2 player game of course)
by 3 people. I would simply leave the "laptop player" alone while my partner or myself work on the other country. Hmmm that might do it. Of course we have even yet to play a simple MP scenario so I am getting way ahead of myself.

Yes, you certainly can switch countries upon reload and have new players join into an in progress game (only at load time).

As for the practicality of leaving the AI to run a nation for a month... uh... not in my opinion. I don't think the AI would totally mess up your R&D in only a month but otherwise you will come back to a really messed up nation. Long ago in HoI 1 I experienced this a couple times when we'd let the game run for a couple days to get past a crash bug. The AI would make a mess of the human player's nation in just a couple days.

I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't try this, but be prepared to be disappointed.

Thanks for the advice. I figured it would be chancey. It really will be up to the player to determine if taking over Russia for a Spring offensive for 4 weeks is worth the risk of having the computer screw up the USA during that time. The use of the laptop as the "3rd player" for the USA should help greatly though. The "3rd player" will just be idle while the Russian offensive goes on. Granted the USA will not be doing anything but, at least it will not be in the clutches of a rampaging AI for a month. And vice versa for the Gerrman player switching to Japan or Italy.
