TBH, there could be better ways of localizing a game than hiring a legal/official translation/localization company.

Crowdsourcing (not crowdfunding) seems to be getting more popularity for conducting these actions. Paid volunteers could also work (I mean, look at the sheer size of this company's community). Tencent could also help in localizing the games.

I'd actually wish if PDX would explore the world of localization in their podcast.

"We don't add Chinese localization because we don't love your government..."
I don't know who this is a quote from, but I'm certain it was not any Paradox official. Is that right?

I kind of regret to play Stellaris for more than 300 hours.

The Chinese government deliberately stops Chinese players from enjoying one of these games, not the other way around.

And the fact that there are no clear rules for which games get banned in the Mainland must be one factor discouraging PDX from investing in a simplified-Chinese/Mandarin localization.

So the biggest obstacle to such a localization is that the CCP loves its power more than it loves the Chinese people.

I would love to also have support for Indic/Brahmi based scripts (like Devanagari for Hindi) and the Indian languages. We have a growing base here too, you know, but sadly not a single game (here or elsewhere) has support for our scripts unless someone capable of very advanced modding comes along.

At best they are broken and half-readable (Cities Skylines) or completely disappear in-game or replaced by question marks (every other Paradox game).

I spent 30 minutes copying each comment to Google Translate
I only know what people are saying
I bought skylines and stellaris and most DLC in steam. I like it,
I also play EVEonline and Sim City V.
I like to build and explore universe games
But every time stellaris is updated, I have to wait for a long time, maybe for a few weeks, maybe a few months. I expect that the Chinese MOD will come.
This update was updated to 2.0. A lot of bad reviews. But I haven’t been able to understand the update introduced into the game so far.
Yes, I bought stellaris. I hope this is not an end. It is the beginning of the service. Just hope
If Paradox can cooperate with Tencent to make this Chinese, if you can
thank you all
thanks for reading

In my wishlist. Many games don't have Chinese. I'm just waiting. Or delete. Surviving Mars is also
In fact I never care about the DLC price of Skylines. It is worth the price.
And stellaris I bought a discount pack.
We all know that Chinese people are very rich. A Chinese language may be beneficial to the sale of stellarisdlc.
At least for me it is like this :)

Actually I wonder about this.

If a PDX game has two Mandarin localization (Mainland and Taiwan, given that both are a bit different even though they're similar), would this game be banned or not in PRC?

Some will
Some will not
The Traditional Chinese version will make mainland partners unhappy.
If the mainland did not introduce this game
Traditional Chinese is a choice for Chinese players (In fact, we can all understand each other. Traditional Chinese & Simplified Chinese)

It would be a first. It's pretty standard for software to have both types of localizations/inputs.

Why would a company localize a game for a country that arbitrarily bans it's products?
I mean, who wouldn't love the Chinese Communist Party?

Official CCP doctrine is that all video games degenerate the nation's youth. Paradox has tricked you into playing Stellaris for 300 hours? Curse those perfidious Swedish capitalists!

First of all, I don't love the CPP.

Does Chinese government arbitrarily ban a product? Of course not, Hearts of Iron was forbidden because it claims Tibet isn't a part of China. You can't make money from China while hurting Chinese people's feelings. Tibet in China is just like Scotland, Texas, Quebec and other places in the world. Some self-righteous foreigners have never been to Tibet, but they think they know everything about China. They feel pity for the rest of the world and believe they are saviors, but they are just being biased, elitist, ignorant of the reality like those liberals.

Compared to international standards, that is an arbitrary reason to ban a product. And I don't mean like "oh we in the West don't do things that way," I mean the Japanese or South Korean governments wouldn't either.

It's a problem for a game to not give China cores on Tibet, but Outer Mongolia, Tannu Tuva, and the Russian Far East don't matter. All four were Qing territory, three of the four were claimed by the Republic, but the CCP only cares about one: Tibet. Why? Because the Soviets backed the Mongolians and Tuvans but not the Tibetans. Let's not pretend there's some high principle at stake here.

Also, the funny thing about Scotland, Texas and Quebec is that movements representing them are lawful and have even won big concessions for their regions. Scotland got an independence referendum. If Tibet is just like Scotland, why doesn't it get its own parliament like Scotland has? Why are there no legal Tibetan political parties?

This thread has more then served its purpose and is way off topic now. Take it to the OT forums if you want to discuss politics further.
