Is there a current list of mods that cause the game not to work?

The steam one seems to be not updated since the start of the year and I went away for a month and now can't get the game working with mods on. (crashes on the end of new city loading screen)
If anyone knows what's currently broken that'd be brilliant.

Yes, this list of broken and incompatible mods gets updated as we find broken mods or mods get fixed.

Might be worth checking your output log or RAM usage just to make sure it isn't a RAM issue. Windows updates (provided you're on Windows) have a tendency to change RAM usage a bit and assets and mods can have updated to increase your RAM usage a bit since you last played. At least if you have no broken mods, I would look at RAM next.
