It seems like it, The kingdom of Ireland tag works just fine... When I type in the Kingdom of Aragon tag for a obvious country in Spain, it does NOT seem to register properly.. It shows itself within the realms of the game, as... ' KOA '.... This is totally chaotic for the mod, seriously, there are so many different names for nations during history that it will be impossible to continue until I sort this out... I will be very disappointed if I Can't even program a Nation's name correctly.. Though granted, I've created over ten new tags in the world name program... It seems just in spite of me almost, it just.. Dies. I mean, the game works, but it literally seems to skip over the KOA and the COA, Crown of Castile Tags I made today.

Well, I'm not really making new, totwlly custom tags, Just new names and such... Look, it's worked before for several modders, I'm merely confused as to why this isn't working now... Cannot have 1700 Europe As a base map to start with, When the kingdoms of Aragon and Castille Are both known as henceform according to that game.. Ahem.. ' COC' and ' KOA'... Not new nations, Just new tags for the world names.csv thing, I hope this makes sense..and that I'm not sounding like a Intolerable, Pig of a person

No problem. :) What I mean is that the world names file only allows to change names for existing tags. If you add KOA in the first column and Kingdom of Aragon in the second one, it cannot work because the game doesn't recognize KOA as a valid tag (it is not in the tag list, which might have around 380 tags in all). And these tags are hardcoded, which means that a modder cannot create new tags by himself.

There is a limit to the number of tags. I'm attaching a file which shows 283 tags. I got some of these from scouring other older mods to see what I could find and use. You probably have other tags which you can use. Hopefully these will be of use to you.

When you meet with problems with modding, it is not a time to be defeatist in the face of problems. It is a time to become creative and try to think of "workarounds" to overcome mod-breaking issues.

Can you trim back on the number of countries? I mean merge some states into one alliance, the alliance being the new state. Especially all those pissy little Germany dukedoms for example? Keep the historically important states, join up the rest.

I'm sure guys would rather play an almost historical game, than no game at all...

Sorry, my earlier mention of 380ish was a blatant mistake, novapaddy's number of 283 tags is the right one. I don't think there are much more. Based on a quick research HoI2 had 164 regular tags + 20 user defined, DD/Arma added 18 more, and DH 80 user defined + 1 regular - total 283. But I didn't find any comprehensive list.

If I understand correctly, Imperial Eagle, your project is becoming more about creating «starting setups» at various dates throughout current era? Then, you can reuse a tag for several successive countries. For example SPA for Castile and SPR for Aragon. Country names, flags and counters can be changed by event, so it's not a problem.

Also, why don't you focus on a small time period, such as the 8 years of the Austrian Succession War? You could learn all aspects of modding without being crushed by the huge needs of a 100 years scenario. Modding is very empirical, but many modders (far more experienced than me) lurk here and they're often glad to provide advice.

Can you give me a full list of accepted tags then please, it would be very helpful... If it is more than the built in 150 or so in darkest hour... I may also use the.. San Marino tag for instance.. As... The Rome tag, a example of me being creative..

*edit*
Well, I guess I was lucky then...some of the names of countries actually have custom name tags and they still show up the name... Maybe I typed in. Compatible abbreviation.. *shrugs*

Oh I'm not lurking. I just come here now and again to read something worthwhile and interesting, rather than the false news everywhere....

See my earlier post, I posted my list in a text file.

I've also discovered that you can change a country's name In a event.. So I may be able to make a event that fired up at the state of every Scenerio, and The event renames all the countries to the historically accurate, period name... Good idea?

Though if I did that, it would defeat the purpose of the mod, to span the entire history of human warfare... Sometimes I wish I just stuck to the industrial period, but I can't go back now.. And my morale for a epic mod showing the entire history of civilization is still high.
BTW, I have decided to remove some worthless, one province nations within Germany, And show them as simply, by 1740, the Holy Roman Empire..
Look, I know I sacrificed detail, but we need to be able to use the tags as efficiently as possible...

Sounds good
BUT, ... there is always a BUT
Remember your unit names depend on the TAG.
So you would need to be ultra careful in what TAGS to change.

You might get away with using more generic unit names. I mean instead of ? Saxony Fusiliers, just Fusiliers?

Shit.. you are starting to get me interested in modding again. ... Don't know if my heart will take getting banned again? Maybe if I stick to historical mods?

What kind of help are you looking for?
