I know this has been asked before and people said "Morpheus Project", but one needs to get there. I ended up building far away stations of water, oxygen, and electricity in order not to be too close to colonies, but the ionstorms hit everything at the same time and my colonists are dying like crazy. So, it feels like one can't even be prepared. It just keeps coming and my resources are dwindling.

I replied to your thread on Steam. Reposting here in case it helps others using search in the future:

I've no idea how Project Morpheus is supposed to help with ion storms. So far as I know, it adds perks to adult colonists and doesn't affect ion storms in any way.

As for surviving the storms, here are my tips:

If you save the game right before the storm hits, you can load/save to get a shorter storm duration, making it easier to survive.

Make sure you have enough oxygen and water stored to last out the storm. Build at least one water tank and one oxygen tank right at the connection point for each dome in case of distribution issues.

Disable any non-essential buildings for the duration of the storm. Otherwise your resources will dwindle on repairs and maintenance.

Especially disable fuel refineries and other water consuming buildings, as they will consume your precious water supplies.

You can reduce oxygen consumption in a dome by building the small (3 hex) farm building amd setting the crop to the highest oxygen producing one. You only need one colonist working there to get the oxygen bonus.

Pipe leaks are the real killer. Don't wait for drones to repair them, instead, delete the leaky section of pipe and let your drones rebuild it. Not only is this faster than repairing the leak, but it saves all of your oxygen and water.

and I appreciate it, but my steam thread was never approved (according to the message I got from them). So, I had no idea that thread is actually alive. It just says that moderators are checking it and I have never received any notifications about it. Thank you mate.

Yeah, I thought the OP was talking about electrostatic dust storms. Someone in the Steam thread pointed out it was related to the mystery.

Sorry for posting misinformation. Some of my tips should still help though.

Ensure you have a sensor tower network (10-15 towers). One of the side benefits of a tower network is that the storms will target any external buildings including lone sensor towers you have scattered throughout the map which will prevent storms targeting critical infrastructure. I do this naturally for efficient scanning but it is worth noting here as half if not most the storms will target towers out in the middle of nowhere. Obviously this is rng but a large scattered tower network heavily reduces the potential of your entire colony being targeted and shut down.

You can put power units into domes to protect them. A barrel dome filled with solar panels/sterling generators will protect your power infrastructure. A barrel dome is spacious and cheap and will help protect power systems from other issues such as; dust storms, twisters and meteors. Solar panels will still even function during a dust storm so you have benefits for doing this even if you don't have this particular mystery.

Another practice I would recommend is to create water and oxygen reserves. Now I don't just mean some storages active at all times (that is more of a buffer than a reserve). I mean pop down additional storages, fill them up then turn them off entirely. This then ensures they stay full and then they are no longer maintained so no excuse of wasting additional metals. You obviously can't switch to using them immediately as they will need repairs but typically you have time to bring them back online by relying on your buffer systems.
