Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble playing Europa Universalis on Linux. I wanted to run the game using Proton for better compatibility since it worked smoother for me in the past. However, after switching to Proton, the Paradox Launcher tries to install itself, and that's where the problem starts.

I’ve tried running the launcher installation through Wine, but it always fails with an error stating it ended prematurely. I’ve looked through all the posts I could find on this issue, but unfortunately, none of the solutions worked.

Does anyone have any advice or a fix for this? I'd really appreciate the help

Strictly speaking this game is not supported under any emulator ike Wine or Proton. I at least have no experience in that environment I'm afraid!

If your hardware is up to it, the native Linux build ought to work fine for you.

Recommended specs:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i3 3240 / AMD® FX 8120
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 560 Ti

However, two things to look into when running the native Linux version:

One is if you've used the Snap or Flatpack installs of Steam, which do not work well with our games. You need to use the native Linux client from Valve:

"Install Steam Now"

The other is an issue with Steam when you have Proton installed; Steam sometimes thinks you have the game on WIndows not Linux so installs the wrong version. If you see eu4.exe (ie the Windows executable) in your Linux-Steam folder for this game, that is the problem!
You can get past that as described here:
