Issue with straight Internet connection games

I just started playing multiplayer and I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue.

My friend and I live close so he simply dials me up directly to play. However, when we play, it seems as if he gets booted out of the game every 20 mins or so, occasionally sooner. Twice the entire game crashed for both of us, but usually it is simply him getting kicked off. He said it tends to do this when he goes to chat, but not always.

Is there anything special we need to do when connecting directly or are there some issues with the mp in this? We both have version 1.02.

Don't know if this is the problem you're having or not, but I've found the game will crash for me every time if I hit tab (for chat) while it says "Waiting for other players..." (This is after you click on start and can move around the map, but before time starts moving)

Is there any severe differences in CPU speed or connection speed? Try having the slower computer host.

...I have noticed that sometimes my game CTD when I hit the tab key too....especially if the computer was pretty busy doing something?!?
