issues running Deus Vult

Hello,

I recently bought both CK and Deus Vult on gamersgate, but i cant get Deus Vult to run. I have the two games setup in their own directory (by default) to program files\ crusader kings and program files\deus vult
Each time i'm trying to launch Deus Vult i'm getting this error : Font gfx\fonts\arial8.bmp not found and the game stop

Obviously they are a lot of missing files so i made a copy of the CK directory and added the DV files in those, i can now lauch game but each time i start a new game or want to load a savegame from CK the game crash to desktop with no error message.

Any clue? Thanks in advance !



final edit : the solution to my problem was to rename the avi folder, see post number 10

DV and CK need to be in the same directory

The best solution to your problem is to reinstall CK and then reinstall DV on top of that.

I did not told in my first message but i tried that too, i reinstalled everything after uninstalling both games. On my second attempt i specified the same directory for both (thinking their might be registry specific for DV) but it did not worked aswell. I cleaned registry before reinstalling too.

edit : Actually doing this i have the same problem i told about above, the game run (for the menu part) fine but each time i want to start a new game it CTD, same if i want to load an old save.

Also execptions.log and history.txt files are simply empty, they report nothing from the crash

It sounds like you didn't stall DV on top of CK but as a separate sub-directory inside the CK-directory. DV can't be played separately from CK.

You shouldn't have a directory named DV at all (not as its own directory or as a sub-directory).

You shouldn't have a directory named DV at all (not as its own directory or as a sub-directory).

Actually my previous post was a little vague before you quoted it and i edited it after

Both CK and DV are in the same directory, DV files having override the CK files (throu the installation method i did second time, not simply copy/pasting like i did first time) and i dont have a DV subdirectory actually.

At what point of the loading-proces does your game crash exactly ?

It crash when i hit START after i choose any nation to play (king or ducal or count) on any of the scenario.

I see a brief loading screen for like half a second then it ctd.

Same problem occur if i want to load my old CK savegames (not sure if they are compatible btw)

Ok after having uninstall/reinstall everything in the sme directory i still have the same issue (with DV)

Alone CK runs and play fine, but when i install DV over it, i have the error i describe above.

Btw both files comes from gamersgate, my CK version is 1.05, my DV version is 2.0

Well... it works - not

I cleaned my windows temp files and all local system file opened during my actual session and it seem it works now when i repeat the exact same process (chossing same country and hit start)...
I really dont understand why, because what i did at first (copy/pasting) is basically the same i did after (installing in same directory) since registry hasent changed with DV install.

but i still have the issue when i load old save

edit : nevermind i have the crash issue again :s it seem i have it for some countries, and i dont have it when i choose some other country to play with

edit 2 : well whatever country i choose boom it crash now, same for loading old savegame, i really dont know what i did to make it work before, the files havent changed at all.

i'm operating under XP sp3 btw, all drivers up to date and so on

Vista or Win7? Make sure you did NOT install in Program Files.

CK/CK-DV has issues with these OSes because they will not allow writes in that directory unless the game is launched as an admin, which will lead to problems.

Reinstall it as C:\Games\Crusader Kings instead.

oh i'm running under XP so no problem with UAC like most games have under vista/7 (that i knew about already)

but i'll try installing it in a different directory

edit : same issue if i try to install it in another directory out of program files
and i desactivated uac just in case (seem uac issue for vista/7 doesnt affect xp anyway)

Are there any temp files created by the game somewhere i could remove and see if that's because of this? Because i really dont understand why it works for a moment like i wrote previous post and why it doesnt now

edit2 : i installed 2.1 beta patch to see if it change something but no,

Try these things

- Rename your AVI-folder (in the main crusader kings folder) to something else (like AVIback f.e.)

- Go into the settings.txt file and make sure the resolution there matches what your video card/monitor can support. When in doubt set it to 1024 X 768 refresh 60.

- Set colourdepth to 16 bit

Usually renaming the AVI-folder is the first thing I advise people to do, but this time I thought. "no that can't be it !'. o

Well it's my fault ^^ i just found out that the default option for showing threads on forum was one month old (was wondering why so few post in there ) i would have found solution earlier without posting here if i noticed first i could see all post since beginning ^^
