I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:'

I downloaded the game from Amazon.com, and the downlaod went without problems, as did the installation. I go to boot up the game and as it get to the end of the loading bar before I even get to the main menu, I hear the computer 'ding' and the error that pops up in the exception log as follows "######## EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x77BFF217: ACCESS VIOLATION read attempt to address 0xE97AECC7
08/15/10 19:54:22". I have tried running this program in multiple compatability modes, and the same error occurs in all but the windows 98 and previous modes. When those modes work, when I go to start a game, the computer tells me that "Crusader Kings has stopped responding". If possible, please tell me what I can do to fix this. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

Try these things

- Rename your AVI-folder (in the main crusader kings folder) to something else (like AVIback f.e.)

- Go into the settings.txt file and make sure the resolution there matches what your video card/monitor can support. When in doubt set it to 1024 X 768 refresh 60.

- Set colourdepth to 16 bit

I tried the avi folder trick, did nothing, in settings the resolution is already at those settings, and my monitor can support them, and in said text file there are no refresh settings, just the numbers for the resolution, and MUSIC_ON, thats all. So what else can I try?

Have you set the colourdepth to 16 bit ?
