I am a big fan of Millennia, but have not played it since last May.
Upon return this month, I found that the state of the game and its AI are still questionable to say the least.
1) The AI does not change the government in age 8. See the screenshot. We've made about 50 turns after switching to the Rocketry age, it is the Age of information now, but the Renaissance governments are still there:
2) The choice of improvements is very questionable. Here, the AI has filled the entire region with sculpting studios and nothing else:
3) The AI does not participate in the Space Race. I was the 5th nation moving into the Age of Rocketry, and Rocketry technology was not my priority, but the AI never bothered to progress.
4) Worst of all, the AI does not protect its capitals with units, not even city guards.
My 2-3 full armies of 6 units (around 600 strength each) destroyed the AI's capital in one turn. It was not a surprise attack. The war lasted several turns already, but the AI did not bother to do anything.
There is no challenge this way.
The Grandmaster AI is good at throwing army after army at you, but when you counterattack, it is naked.
This is more stupid than the AI by Firaxis, which is not a compliment.
The combat system of this game is so good by design and seems to be abstract enough to be manageable by the AI, but alas, it makes extremely stupid mistakes again and again.
