This is crazy silly. All you have to do to play as anyone funky is open the save and right at the very top (where all the counties start to be listed) add the line:

PDOX = { gender = male type = kingdom dna = "12345678901234" title = { PDOX C333 } }

where PDOX is whatever your highest title is (the tag listed on all your courtiers, etc.) The DNA and title list doesn't need to be accurate - it just looks better if it is.

Most of the other edits (name, dna, etc) are much easier in the save, too. They really didn't make it as hard on us as you're making out.

Yes, it's quite easy to edit saves or scenario setups to play as those countries or even to hack the exe, but the point is to allow you to claim and grant titles. That works this way, and we haven't yet found a better way.

Ok. You can do the same edits to the save games, but that does require you to save and reload - if this does the same thing while the game is still going, then yeah it's more convenient once you figure it out.

The so-far-only-Christian thing doesn't seem accurate though - each religious group is only supposed to be able to bother claiming titles from their coreligionists. Or were you planning on working to enable people to claim things like the kingdom of Fatimia title?

This is really nice ! I managed to marry my Sunni Persian Prince to the Orthodox Alan princess. But I can't grab titles from fellow muslims when I play as one..
