Good afternoon!
Avrolancaster has asked me to petition the Forum for people willing to form a "team" for continued production of the SUPER MARIO MOD later this year. TSF4 and Avrolancaster have been working hard on laying down the Map for the past year and that is coming close to fruition.
Let me present this to you in Avro's own words:
I'm going to be realistic. Total conversion mods take teams. Teams of more than three people.
My life has gotten mega-busy since I volunteered for this project, and I have put very little work into it in the last 9 months. I do not have the time to basically remake CK2 on my own; I never did. I'll commit right now to finishing up the map, programing the species traits that I posted earlier in the thread, implementing the provincial species system, and bringing the religions to a level of completion somewhere around alpha-ready.
Basically once I've done that, without a team, I'm out. At this point the mod will be 'playable' but not great quality. I don't know how to mod the graphics, nor do I really have a great desire to learn.
TSF4, Avrolancaster, and I each have sets of skills we can devote to the project.
I've come a long way since I wrote this. I can write Events, Decisions, add provinces, add religions, and so on. I still can't use DDS files and all my tools are the same as I once had (Artcursors, Powerpoint, MS Paint, etc.), but I really have a large understanding of the art of Paradox coding.
So, to my knowledge, here is a sample of the men we need to aid us on this project.
- Coders. This is the big one. Talking about what religions and such can do is nice, but it's a whole different project to make those events and decisions a reality. I can't code my way out of a paper bag, and Avro and TSF4 aren't going to do my bidding just because this Mod is my idea. The Super Mario Mod needs men willing to take the time to turn my ideas and the ideas of other participants into reality. This, like GOT, Heretic Pride, Founder of the Republic, Crisis of the Confederation, and Mercenary Kings, will cover things as diverse as laws to councilmen to dungeon and imprisonment events (because what is a Mario Mod without kidnapping?). The Mario Mod will touch only on things that have been proven to be modifiable, but few have succeeded. We need brilliant minds to help make our dreams come true.
- Mentors. I have never attempted serious work on any project like a game Mod. I don't understand how CK2 graphics work, nor how I'd make it so that Goombas can wear every other character's crowns or add different scars and such like you'd expect face portraits to do. The Super Mario Mod needs patient men willing to walk complete Noobs at Modding through the arduous process of troubleshooting and repairing glitches. I can't code my way out of a paper bag, and Avrolanacaster has already said he does not wish to self-teach himself graphics.
- Troubleshooters. A Mod this complex will face scores of bugs and complications. With certainty, I can say my graphics attempts will fail. Crashes and the like will be rampant for months, even years after the Mod production. We need people with the knowledge and skill to debug the files and stare at lines of codes to spot an error. This is the least fun and one of the hardest positions, but we unfortunately are in need of testing.
Won't you step up to the plate?
Deus Vult,
