The good news: I found source of the problem and I was able to fix the save file, so the AAR will continue sooner or later. Expect major update around the weekend. ;)

The whole month has been crazy. It's unbeliavable mess, with both bad things and some really good ones that almost caused major catastrophes - I'm having trouble remembering all the exact details. On morning of the 27th, Luftwaffe engaged some small bomber flights on the border. Our losses were minimal mostly, but their losses are unknown currently.

It was not shortly after that Adolf Galland stormed into my office with a walking stick and a bandaged nose. His transport aircraft made a crash landing in Berlin after landing gear failed, but that didn't stop him down. He wanted to see Göring as he had a plan and strategy in order to slow down the allied bombing streams, but he didn't tell me the details, only puffed a cigarette smoke in my face while smiling like old time gangster. What was even more astonishing: Göring actually wanted to see him to.

However, in an attempt to force the paratroopers away from the southern France it was ultimately halted after staggering casualties. Due allied interdiction being everywhere, exact records are still unknown. There were plenty of other activity going on along the whole front - and even behind it. Dönitz's plan to interdict Allied transports so far hasn't been that succesful, some convoys were sunk and several transport squadrons were routed but once their major fleets had arrived to the rescue, alot of sailors went sleeping with the fishes while the allies continue to advance on their new established beachhead.

Several local counter attacks were launched, some with moderate success. On the other hand, due their highly mobile army two divisions were trapped before any proper response could be made. After several days of fighting, a daring move to open up the pocket and evacuate them ended up being a success. By simply marching on foot, several divisions were evacuated and managed to avoid further encirclements against highly mobile, formidable enemy. Unfortunately over the course of the month remnants of a single division was captured, even though their delaying actions allowed three other divisions to escape very dangerous salient that almost ended up being a pocket. However, between July 2th and 3th an assassination of Hitler was attempted. I don't know the details, other than he is currently in hospital but he is still alive and kicking. As a result Himmler's SS started round up several dissidents of the Wehrmacth and they were imprisoned. Guderian in the meanwhile gave orders for front HQs to authorize retreats if necessary, especially in case of potential encirclement.

In the east, Soviets had finally reached pre-Barbarossa borders. On 8th of July, Walther Model - replacing Rommel's post - ordered major attack with one purpose: cause major harassment in the allied frontline. Even though it was not planned at all and very improvised attempt, it did wear down several allied divisions and caused notable casualties on them while ours remained relatively minimal - despite their reinforcements. Even the RAF and USAAF didn't intervene that much as the three fighter squadrons in Paris had been resting for over a week and were given defensive orders to patrol and intercept anything in sight. However, in Italy the british had launched major offence. After a mere day of fighting, a retreat order was given on the whole front.

Had the battle gone any longer, the casualties would've been high. Despite good defensive positions, they simply had the major advatange in both eguipment and numbers. After Model halted the so-called attack in France, several fighter squadrons were engaged. Exacty losses are unknown, as we lost more planes in attempted landings than in fights due extreme wind. In the east however, Soviets launched massive attack in Königsberg, only to be followed up by another one in Zamosc

In the Atlantic, a small raider group managed to spot a transport squadron. They managed to cause moderate damage and force them to retreat, but no major ships were sunk. It was also unclear were they simply returning to England or transporting something major.

War in the air on the other hand was under interesting turn of events. Galland's strategy of forming large fighter patrols concentrated on some of their common flight paths - despite being difficult to coordinate and to plan - have gained some results in the whole month. Several major raids were halted after few hours and occasionally even 7:1 ratio between their vs our losses was achieved.

The attack in Königsberg raged on and on, and the Soviets kept harassing on other parts. Zamosc seems to be their favorite, as usually after 6-12 hours they'll halt their attack and launch another one in few days in very varying size. In Paris yet another small raid was intercepted and disorganised shortly after the planes scrambled.

A disturbing turn of events arose when the british launched amphibious assault in Denmark in Aalborg. What was left of the Kriegsmarine managed to intercept a small group of transports, caused some notable damage but unfortunately no ships were sunk. Several mechanized divisions resting in Berlin were immediatly ordered on the spot. In the meanwhile Soviets turned their attension in Lublin.

After nearly a week of deadly urban warfare, Königsberg was lost to Soviets. Von Rundstedt ordered a retreat as it became obvious Königsberg couldn't be held, and the losses were mounting on both sides. Soviets still kept harassing along the whole front on random locations. Luftwaffe on the other hand saw some aerial activity, as during the Battle of Königsberg all avaible fighter squadrons were patrolling the area to eliminate any ground support. Instead, after the battle was over they ran into group of Tupolevs above Königsberg.

However, several days later Soviets launched major offense on Stryj. Von Bock's army had been able to dig in impressive defensive positions, but the sheer amount of enemy unis involved in the battle would either force them to retreat eventually or face annihilation in battle of attrition. All avaible panzer divisions were pulled in as fire brigades shortly after the battle began.

In the west, the allies launched major broad front advance. Le Havre was held after reinforcements were brought in, in Bourges several hours of delaying actions were made before retreating, in Auxerre the americans got very heavy beating while in Saint-Etienne things started out ok, but after fast breakthrough and mobile exploitation a retreat was ordered in order to prevent major losses and potential pocket.

Galland's Big Wing strategy appeared to be working. At the end of the month several small raids were intercepted, and moderate losses were caused, and in large raids notable losses were caused on the allied bomberstreams.

The Kriegsmarine wasn't that lucky however, as after small patrols and convoy raiding on coast of Denmark a small US fleet arrived on the scene. No ships were sunk, but the major losses on some of the remaining capital ships was notable. They kept chasing on and on and it became obvious the US navy was hungry for blood.

Soviets turned their attension in Romania this time. It was nothing to be afraid of though, as our intelligence intercepted several transmissions from Stavka that major harassments on the whole front are authorized.

The allies were being slowed down considerably regarding the war in the air. Despite the issues brought with big wing operations, possibly due excellent leadership by General Felmy they have been highly succesful so far. On southern France, the french had landed in Touloise. Despite the fact several divisions had just retreated, they instantly launched a counter attack to push the french back to the sea, and after few days Touloise was back in Germany's hands. Even aerial cover was established to prevent major interdiction for several days.

On 1st of August, the Soviet offence in Stryj had been halted. Our losses were quite favorable compared to the soviets.

How do you have so much oil?

I believe I have +14 oil per day currently if I don't move too many oil-eating units around or there's nothing too major going on, and buying tons of oil from Sweden and Romania certainly helps and I completely shut down synthethic material plants to conserve oil, as rares for the moment are not that much of a problem.

The Western front is not secured yet, I'm confident in your ability to contain the Soviet hordes though.

It's probably going to take a while before it's properly secured. For the moment the current shape of the front favours me in a way that if they attempt to continue advancing any further they're going to have nasty weak spots on their lines. That one harassment attack I made already caused around 9 units (3x HQs, few motorised, few mechanised and one armoured) to go as low as around 5-6% org per unit while I barely lost 1\3rd of total org average per unit, even though my own supply lines are bit problematic for the moment :p

Yes such plan should work pretty well, especially if you manage to obtain air superiority.

I'm aiming for air parity for the moment, unless I need to retreat any further on the west as then I have the homefield advatange in order to prevent major interdiction, even though their strategic bombers are currently greater threat than anything else. The current situation doesn't allow any real aerial offences, unless I want to render my air force useless for quite a long time.

Use the Support defence and Victory or Vallhalla missions to stall the soviets to a crawl, and make all your panzers in divions of one, motorised in groups upto three, that way having a single panzer and a single motorised corps attack gives you combined arms bonuses in attack and defence, and panzer is fast for defence especially when used as a mobile reserve rather than frontline troop ( put panzers in one province behind the frontline and use the reserve mission, they will automatically go using support defence to the frontline provinces that the province they are on borders), and have fun.

1. VoV is really stupid option to do with extended ground combat times unless the situation is truly desperate in the real meaning of the word. This AAR is played with a modded game with slower ground combat, air force being generally speaking more useful, repairing can take some time, building a capital ship will take easily two years even with full hawk lobby etc ;)
2. CA bonus in AoD is primarily based on division's own softness, and also on the average softness of the formation. Even ARM that is defending will gain CA bonus even if it's alone or there's stack of 3x ARM.
3. I've been using ARM as firebrigades already both in the east or the west, and in the west I can't afford pull them off on the frontline as it took only about 10 hours for regular infantry division to lose organisation almost completely (went below 10, and it should be potentially even worse for ARM) when it got targeted by few 4+ sized CAS\TAC stacks as it was moving on the frontline. This is not that much of a problem in the east, but since they are in quite good condition and it saves me from time to constantly move them around (and this saves oil, alot), considering that there's been only two real attacks from soviets that were not over within 12-20 hours manually pulling in reinforcements saves from the hassle of having to move back'n forth constantly ;)

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind advices but this is not vanilla AoD. Some things which are fine and dandy there aren't that much with the mod.

Semi-important announcement: this AAR is put on hold until I can either solve few problems with my fairly new ISP or I'll change it completely. I had update planned for earlier this week but for some reason I cannot upload almost anything; imageshack and such won't work no matter what I do and it took ages to upload simple (50kb) attachment earlier this week on the forums. And as a edit, it's not just upload: the whole connection is pretty FUBAR without any rhyme or reason as it's having PMS or so.

Once that's fixed there'll be update sooner or later.

Yup Too Bad.
I hope that you'll be able to fix it quickly.

The good news is that I'm switching ISP to get rid of the problem, but the bad news is it will take few weeks to get the new connection and I'll be stuck with a wireless connection which - needless to say - has very poor upload.

However once it's done there might be quite huge update incoming, so might be a good idea to dig some sort of trench system to take cover :p

PS: yes, the name got changed after a kind request by a moderator. We'll leave it at that.
