Can I start as a super-science race that then genetically modifies another race until they become the ultimate warrior? Can that ultimate warrior race then rebel against my super-science race and destroy them? Can the ultimate warrior race then go on a galactic rampage?

... because I want to be thematic here.

My personal opinion is that they look quite different (but you see that they are of the same type) and really awesome :)

I got quoted by a PDoxer, sweet!

And I sincerely hope for the following:

Reptilians that look like Jackon's Chameleons
Reptilians and/or Avians that look like Velociraptors
Reptilians that look like T-rexes, down to the adorable tiny arms
Avians that look like any of the multitude of amazing flightless birds here on Earth. Seriously, if a race of space ostriches is a thing... well, it probably isn't yet, but having read this post Paradox will now be fully on board with the idea of a race of malevolent intergalactic ratites. Or a dapper race of mercantile space penguins.

But seriously...
Space Ostriches

The German article on the GameStar confirms that we can genetically manipulate other aliens to make slave species.

How moddable

That sound awesome. Finally, the Terran Empire can enslave the Klingons.
...
..
...
Can we assimilate other species into a cybernetic collective like the Borg does?

Wow, that's quite... impressive. Paradox seems to be thinking way out of the box with Stellaris.

That would be a terrible idea, we would probably colonize a planet with some primitive mammalian life forms on it and then this one pink space rock would lead a rebellion against us and we would lose control of the planet and then space rocks that still live on the planet would start cross breeding with the intelligent mammalian life forms

It really just wouldn't end well, although if we can figure out the science behind making your eyes turn into stars it might be worth it

Just nuke the entire site with your giant space hands, or at least send more than one professional soldier and kill the rebels instead of taking them prisoner so your scientists can look at the crossbreed.

Yeah sending our lead scientist in with only one soldier and a criminal awaiting trial might not have been the best idea

Mission failed, science vessel lost

Actually that would be cool idea for an event chain, you lose a science ship while it was studying a planet and years later you get messages from said scientist saying they are still alive and need help

Is it potentially possible for one of the random species to be an exact same, or nearly exact same as yours? Either through convergent evolution or being remants of a past empire that violently collapsed. The collapse causing a massive loss in information and leading to things like space travel being forgotten and such.

So.... like in Star Trek? Where 98% of all races are basically "humans but with funny foreheads or ears"?

Though I honestly love the fact that they dedicated an excellent episode to "Yeah, very first humanoid race totally genetically engineered the crap out of the entire galaxy to make (most) sentient life look like them". Which I believe is potential scenario Paradox has already said could happen, where you discover all life was designed by a single ancient race.

Though I'd also welcome a more toned down version of it like in Babylon 5, where the older races simply dicked around with the younger ones to try and shape their civilization in the ways they wanted. Looks like you can do that in Stellaris, but I wonder if it's also going to be possible that thousands of years ago a race of Space Ostriches did the same thing to yours.

It'll be amusing to be able to play the role of the aliens that go around dicking with younger species' genetics for a change. :p

I bet I'll be able to earn the credit "worst creator ever" in three seconds! *Strikes an overly dramatic pose*

....

Well, to be fair, they did introduce a story line in Star Trek: The Next Generation which implied all intelligent life in the Milky way was seeded by an ancient species, and that's why they all (almost all) have human-like qualities and can breed with each other.

Based on the differences between the human and the ape-beast, both in the mammal group, I'm guessing there should be some pretty nice variety amongst the hundred or so appearances.

The event chain ideas are endless, I need dev diaries to get my expectations in check Paradox!
