I don't know if this is intended or nothing can be done about it. It doesn't bother me playing Japan, it actually makes things easier. But in most European / American nations to grant statehood there must be a land link. But Japan, probably because its an island nation, doesn't have this restriction. Just Wondering....like i said probably a WAD.

It seems like Japan is considered part of two "continents", Asia and Oceania. So they can create states in the Pacific Islands as well as Korea/China, which seems to make sense historically. I assume that's what you mean by being able to make "anything" a state. Did you test this anywhere else? If Japan can create states in Africa or the Americas that would be a prety serious bug.

Please be more precise - have you granted statehood to an african colony whilst playing as Japan. If so, were there any provinces with a japanese immigrant majority. If there was a state without a majority japanese province then could you please send a zipped or rar'd save game file to victoria dot bugs at btinternet dot com.

Then that is perfectly normal. You can always make a colony on your home continent a state. AFAIK Japan's capital is in Asia therefore it should be able to make a state of any colony in Asia. The islands should be Oceania - which means that Japan is getting an advantage here but one it probably deserves. I don't know why Japan can make states in both these continents - but I don't believe thats a bug.

If they can make states in Africa - THAT'S a bug.

ok... different...

I cannot grant statehood to provinces in afrika etc... but i can grant statehood to provinces in asia... oceania, here everything is fine.

But... i cannot release f.e. Korea into independence nor any other country. I hold up all their provinces and still i cannot create a satelite state "korea", this seems to be a bug for me.
