Hi all,

yesterday I was playing the '39. campaign (DD 1.3a with latest DAIM 20070406 version) as Japan. I was winning in China and have received an event (marked as DAIM event) giving me three choices.
1) Puppet Nat china
2) Carve up the chinese lands
3) Total conquest is preferable

Not knowing the outcome, I chose the second option, and I don't like it (creates 4 weak puppets instead of 1 strong one). Could someone instruct me on how to manually fire this event upon reload, so I can choose differently? Any advice on what to choose?

Thanks in advance!

Make a backup of your savegame and then remove event IDs 3815, 3821, 3899 and 3817 from its event history (search for "history = {" near the bottom of the file). Then reload that save and enter "event 3815" in the console. That should do it.

I tried to do this last night, and unfortunately it didn't work. Once I opened the saved game I have found that "history = {" section of the file ends with the following part:

3814 3815 3821 3899 }

So, there is event 3814 (Chinese event for the surrender of china) in the history, but no sign of event 3817. I don't know why, but deleting those 4 last events from the history didn't reverse the result of the event 3815 completely.

Anyway, I used the last available saved game and tried the other options, the (A) Nat Chi puppet and (C) Total Conquest, and found out that both of them are not too much to my liking.

Total Conquest seems to ahistorical to me as it leaves Japan far too powerful, though with significant Partisan issues and 3% dissent. On the other hand creating a Nat Chi as a puppet gives you a puppet almost as strong as yourself, with 5 research teams and unlimited manpower. I doubt that real life Japanese (had they been in the position to do so) would create a strong, united chinese puppet, as it was too much of a threat, both short term and long term.

In the end, I chose what I chose first, to carve up the chinese lands and to create 4 puppet nations. That seams to me as both the most "historical" choice for japan to make (according to the old maxim: "Divide et impera" - divide and rule) and the one that will give me the most challenging game as Japan, as these small puppets won't be able to provide me with a ton of blueprints and dozens of most modern infantry divisions.

China is finaly mine (muahahahaha), now I'll throw in some carriers for the USA. America, I'm coming :)

Thanks a lot for your help GKar. Now I know a bit more about the game mechanics and it will surely come handy in the gaming days to follow.

Clearing an event ID from the event history will never erase the event effects from a given game (why should it - just think about it), it will only make the game engine "think" that this event has never happened and it can thus happen again either by itself (trigger conditions met) or when you fire it from the console (use F12 to get it).

In your case you could have done that and then chosen differently after refiring the event. I thought about it and it should have worked even though the event effects of the first try were still in place. The puppets would have been annexed (once again) and the right one released (or none at all if you preferred).

Now I understand how it should work. Event effects are not reversed once you delete the event from the history (and there's no reason to do be that way), so that once I've removed the event from the history, I could fire it again and choose differently (or wait for it to fire once trigger conditions are met).

Thanks!
