Now, I was doing some savefile editing, but that never caused me issues before. But, after doing some editing and trying to start the game, I would get an error message (see javascript_error.png) but, even after clicking okay, the game would still be "running" in steam (see still_running.png) until I turned off the paradox launcher in task manager. I tried switching out the save file I edited with a copy from before I made changes. I also tried restarting my computer and launching a different game. Different game launched fine, but still nothing. Even uninstalled Imperator and reinstalled it. No dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I know it must have been something involving what I described above or how I started the game at one point and windowed out and exited out of the start-up.

Try deleting C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/ and run the game from the Steam PLAY button again. The launcher will reinstall and update, if you then exit it and restart it you should be fine from then on.

I have the exact same issue. This seems to have happened following yesterday's Java update.

(However, I am unable to delete the Paradox folder you refer to because I apparently lack permission to do so, which is odd, given that I have admin access by default.)

However, fyi, I uninstalled Java 281 and installed Java 271 and I still get the problem shown in the first post. Maybe some stuff left over in the registry?

And I managed to duplicate this problem in EU4 and HOI4 but not CK2. Definitely a Java v. Whizzbang Launcher problem.

EDIT: Didn't read your last part.

I did what you said and it did start and I was able to get into the game. I finally read the last part again and restarted Steam, but I get this message now:

I'm also having this issue with all of my Paradox games now after having followed the instructions in this thread; could we get a fix?

This is a problem with the new launcher 202017 version. Can you please download the latest C++ bundle and install it:

And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

Sorry about that!

Thank you! That looks like it fixed it!
