In RL Jean Calvin fled from France to Switzerland, where he came in contact with Ulrich Zwingli's teachings. In the aberrated world the french protestants are doing a lot better, and Calvin may not have to flle to what's in the aberrated world is Swabia, and then he might not come in contact with Zwingli's teachings and the reformed faith might not form.

Here's some conclusions, since Luther is getting sanctuary by the Swabians, Swabia will become Lutheran, not reformed, which mean Calvin would work somewhere else, possibly in Brittany or Occitania, since he probably was not chased away from France, but for the reformed faith to form he still need to come in contact with Zwinglis teachings, so we should instead have Zwingli fleeing to france, since his teachings might not be accepted by the earlier Habsburgs.

Who flees where isn't that critical and what exactly happens isn't imo that critical. More important is the grand scale and having also Reformed religion around.

There was an earlier thread which postulated Calvin settling in Holland, where he and his descendants formed an ultra-reformed community, which eventually becomes a refuge for reformed groups from all over western Europe. In 1590 Holland and Gelre secede and form a dutch reformed theocracy. Flanders seceds from Hansa if they are still catholic in 1600-ish.

Then from 1640-ish, if they own 2 or fewer provinces, and control only 1, (and thus beleaguered and desperate...?) they flee to a colony somewhere, and the capital moves. Current thinking was that this colony would be in America, but it could just as well be Senegal/Dakar, or ummm Vinland ( )

This was just an idea. I am not sure what is intended for the dutch provinces, since we are trying to reduce Bavarian power,so I imagine that they don't get to start with them. But that's another thread...

Perhaps he can flee to Cordoba and begin his teachings there " a haven for heretics" and the Sultan gets the change to begin the reformation of Europe to divide Europe even more :p think of Suleyman and the protestants.

Cue the über Muslim armies crushing the barbarian euros beneath their feet and sweeping continents, forcing the whole world to accept Allah as their God and Muhammed as his prophet like they should? :D

as If I dont do that with every game I play Cordoba :p

Hilarious.

But also a reasonable idea if mikl's. Would fit with some of the ideas for how to reconfigure the Infidel King to accommodate the new Occitan protestants.

Africa isn't a good place for them to flee to - they'd all die of tropical diseases, and wouldn't have a clue how to grow food. I was thinking around northern Argentina would be sufficiently remote from the bustle of North and Central America. Also, it's mostly grain, which is great if people are trying to live there self-sufficiently. South Africa would make a good choice, except that it's far too desirable for the main colonial powers to have left it that long, whereas other good places like Australia and New Zealand are unlikely to be known to the Calvinists in the 1640s.

I am happy with Argentina or thereabouts. But what are the game mechanics to ensure they get there, and that it isn'y already taken?
