Hi,

I got Stellaris via the latest HumbleBundle, so version 2.7.2 (60bf) is my first impression of the game.

Right away I noticed two severe bugs, which I find quite strange for such a matured title.

1) The keyboard shortcuts don 't work, only F1-F10, +/- and Escape seem to work as intended. Pressing Space does nothing (should pause/unpause). Grouping and selecting with ctrl+number and number does nothing. Pressing "2" opens the same menu I get when pressing "Escape" key. Pressing 3 bring me to my home world system, not sure but I don't think that's intended, Schnellauswahl (O) on the right also only works with Mouseclicks but not with "O" key, there are probably more.

2) When using fullscreen or windowed fullscreen mode, after switching to another window and back (alt+tab or click on 2nd screen) the game seems to accept no further inputs at all, the only thing that still works is the Menu that pops up when hitting Escape, from where I can at least quit and save and later restart. In windowed mode that bug does not happen. Window is not resizable, but I can adjust it to my needs with editing settings.txt, so this at least is a workaround to make it playable at all.

Game version is Wells 2.7.2 (60bf), running on Ubuntu 18.04 with standard Gnome desktop and Nvidia drivers 440.100. Selecting game specific inputs in steam on or off makes no difference.

I don't see this issue in the Known Issues and Solutions thread, can you give any hints?

Not really, I've never seen reports of either of these issues before.

If you run a Steam Verify operation against the game, does it find anything to fix?

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

Steam Verify operation did not help.

No Windows, no dxdiag, I'm running a standard Ubuntu 18.04 LTS install with NVidia graphics drivers (440.100). If I can provide further details to help diagnosing please tell.

Sorry I missed it is on Linux. I just tested it on my Ubuntu 20.04 installation and had neither of these issues. M switched between the galaxy and system views, and space pause and unpaused just fine, for instance.

Are you using any unusual keyboard layout?

While I'm not sure these are video issues, there is a newer driver now:

Wow, I'm really surprised that could make a difference. I have two layouts configured, "Deutsch" and "Deutsch (Nur Grave-(`) und Acute-(')Akzentzeichen)", usually using the second. Switching to the first layout before starting stellaris totally fixes the broken shortcuts problem. Still weird, didn't see this issue in any other game or application yet.

System configuration looks like:

Now reconfirming for the second issue (problems after switching back and forth to other applications when stellaris is running in fullscreen), shortcuts do still work, but it seems everything about a quarter screenwidth from the right edge of the screen is not clickable, i.e. the +/- on the top right of the screen, anything in the "Schnellauswahl (O)" menu, buttons on the bottom right. Even select boxes don't reach through this area. I'm satisfied with the window-mode solution, but it still looks like a severe bug. Perhaps the game gets confused in a multi-monitor setup? I'm using two screens, main screen is the right one, smaller auxiliary screen to the left, both connected to the nvidia card.

It is possible this is a multi-monitor problem, I don't have the gear to test that myself. You'd think it would have come up before now though ...

How about borderless, is it okey to play that way too?

Does that also happen in HOI4, as a matter of interest?

Sorry, I should have been more precise and tested more thoroughly.

1) Borderless fullscreen behaviour

The described problem with the unclickable screen area does happen in borderless fullscreen window mode.

2) "True" Fullscreen

If I switch to the other fullscreen option the following happens:

Stellaris running fullscreen (on main monitor)
Alt+Tab to other application
Alt+Tab back to Stellaris
Stellaris is now running in a 1920x1080 window (with a couple pixels unreachable at the bottom, cause that screen space is needed for the top menu and window title bars)
Further Alt+Tabbing back and forth doesn't change that behaviour.
Now if I drag the stellaris window around a bit and then alt+tab to another window and then back to stellaris
=> Stellaris again in fullscreen

All of the time the secondary monitor stays active and I can freely move the mouse there without alt+tabbing. If I click on a window in the secondary screen stellaris behaves as when using alt+tab, i.e. switching to window mode and only getting back to fullscreen after dragging its window and alt+tabbing back and forth again (or using Super-key, window select for that matter).

A bit annoying, but at least in this mode all screen space is clickable now and the problem that appeared in borderless fullscreen window mode does not happen.

Personally, I'll just stay with regular window mode and manually adjusted sizes in settings.txt.

Does that also happen in HOI4, as a matter of interest?
Haven't tried it yet, does it use the same engine?

Yes, all current PDS games use the Clausewitz engine.
Just gave it a quick try, in HOI4 the exact same 2 bugs are present, keyboard shortcuts do not work with my 2nd keyboard layout selected, and the right part of the screen is unresponsive in borderless fullscreen window mode, so it looks like a quirk in the game engine used in multiple games.
How to get this issue noticed? Should I make another post in the Bug Reports forum?

Yes, it would have to be picked up by QA or the devs there, and moved into the separate Clausewitz development team I think.

If you have or get Imperator and CK3, they have the latest Clausewitz iteration, plus a new framework called Jomini - it would be interesting if they were affected too.

I have similar issues with ALL the Pdx games ( EU4, Stellaris, HOI4, CK3, Imperator), when using dual-monitor :
fullscreen ( even borderless fulscreen , if available, like in HOI4) seems "missing" the right placement

Here below the CK3 and Stellaris screenshot of what happens.
You may note that the fullscreen game (on the right) has moved to the "wrong place" (a little too low and the bottom part is covered )
Of course if I disable the secondary monitor, I've no issue at all with any games .

Right now I've the latest Nvidia drivers (455) , and I suspect some weird interaction with Gnome .

Where is the better place to post this bug? As I told you, its affects all your titles (and I don't want to spam the threads with something that is probably the same bug )

It would have to be handled by each dev team separately, so you'd post in the Bug Reports forum of each affected game.

It may turn out to be an engine issue, but the devs will determine that and direct the issue appropriately.

Good luck!

Same issue but on Windows. This was the first thread google found with a similar issue. I'm going to have look around the forums and see if I can any newer reports of this. This is my first time playing Stellaris and the issue came up straight away.
