“The great King Arthur defeated his adversaries in the South, but the realm of the Once and Future King doesn’t reach everywhere. There are strange lands beyond the Forest of Bedegraine, ruled by no one, haunted by the old gods who fought and bled here a long time ago. This is the tale of three brave souls who all came here for different reasons.”

What is King Arthur: Fallen Champions?

You might have already finished King Arthur – The Role-playing Wargame (and the DLCs) and can’t wait to play King Arthur II. Or quite the opposite: you might be new to the King Arthur series and you don’t know where to begin. In both cases, King Arthur: Fallen Champions is the perfect game for you.

King Arthur: Fallen Champions is a stand-alone expansion pack from NecoreGames that fills the gap between the events of King Arthur and the upcoming King Arthur II. It still uses the game engine built for King Arthur – The Role-playing Wargame, but the game design and the focus is very different. It’s basically a plot-driven mini campaign with a given number of quests and battlemaps. You lead three very different characters through the various challenges and see how their destinies unfold.

You don’t have to be familiar with the first King Arthur game, and Fallen Champions is definitely not a prerequisite for King Arthur II. (It adds extra fun if you play all three games, though.)

About the background

The story of Fallen Champions takes place after the events of King Arthur. The Once and Future King has defeated his adversaries and brought peace and unity to the warring provinces of Britannia. However, the territory beyond the magical forest of Bedegraine is the untamed wilderness where even most knights won’t venture – the place where monsters and savages dwell and powerful lords rule from their bleak castles.

Something is stirring in the depths of these wild forests, a terrible force that has been exiled here a long time ago. Three brave souls will face this threat, but not even these champions know which side they will eventually take.

This is where this expansion bridges the gap between the two King Arthur games. In King Arthur II you’ll face the terrible Fomorians, the monsters that the Sidhe defeated in ancient times. How did they come back? Was it by accident or the result of a vicious plan? Fallen Champions tells you about the events that led to their return to Britannia and introduces one of the first Fomorians you’ll ever meet. Most likely you won’t forget this one.

Meet the Champions

You have three main characters, each with a strong personality, special skills, goals and a storyline. You will control all three heroes, sending them from challenge to challenge.

In King Arthur your heroes were steel-clad knights with arcane abilities, so we thought this time we give you a chance to try something different. We wanted to present heroes with different abilities and attitudes, so we designed your new heroes to represent what was missing from King Arthur but will be included in King Arthur II.

Meet the enchantress, Lady Corrigan – who is not even mortal, but one of the Sidhe (a faerie, if you want), your former enemies from King Arthur. She is very different from your former heroes, in spells and skills and attitude.

Drest, the Chosen is shaman of a Pict tribe, the one who talks to the ancient gods in his dreams. He was summoned to Cumbria to participate in a ritual that’s supposed to help his nation to rise again. You’ll meet the Picts in King Arthur II, mostly as your enemies, so here is the occasion to get to know them a bit better. As a shaman, Drest has new abilities that give new flavor to the gameplay.

The third champion is Sir Lionel, a knight from King Arthur’s court (we still need knights, after all), and he’s just embarked on the most dangerous adventure of his life to save his beloved damsel.

Welcome to Cumbria

Fallen Champions gives you a new Campaign Map and a whole new region of Britannia. This beautiful map was crafted exclusively for this expansion, representing the faraway land of Cumbria.

Cumbria is a territory north from Arthur’s Britannia, far from the setting of the first game. We wanted to show you a totally new region that you couldn’t explore in King Arthur. As we mentioned earlier, Fallen Champions still uses the game engine crafted for King Arthur I, but we changed a couple of things, so the new camera angle, the detailed environment and the even more beautiful landscape in Fallen Champions might give you a slight hint about the fully revamped Campaign Map you’ll only see in King Arthur II.

Gameplay

There is no management in Fallen Champions. You won’t conquer territories on the Campaign Map and you won’t make strategic and economical management decisions this time. You’ll follow the storylines instead, choosing your next missions and upgrading your heroes, spending the hard-earned experience points just like in King Arthur.

The plot-based, mission-to-mission gameplay has a very strong focus on storytelling. This campaign features 10 battles, each preceded by an individual adventure. You’ll gather your units during these quests and march into tactical and situation battles with your new forces.

Battles

Prepare for a whole new set of unique battlemaps in Fallen Champions! Fight on the colossal ramparts of the strangest castle ever built; defend the bridges over the deepest chasms of Cumbria; use the ancient power of the stone circles and summon the ghosts of the fallen warriors to aid your fight, just to mention a few.

Each of the storylines incorporates 3 battles, adding up to a total of 9 skirmishes plus the last big confrontation, also introducing the element of the boss fights to the King Arthur series. You can always switch between your heroes and continue the progress in the other storyline, but eventually you must lead all three heroes to the end of their personal tales.

Summary

Fallen Champions is a dark fantasy tale set in the world of King Arthur. It is a story of three brave souls on the eve of great changes that will turn upside down the ancient land of Britannia.

You really don’t want to miss it.
