This trait is pretty much an unmitigated disaster, isn't it?

I made my son a count, but unfortunately he died before taking over, and his son took over instead--and was already married. The wife was not ideal, so I thought--hey I'll just kill her and get a new one. Now I'm a kinslayer and am struggling to hold things together.

Any best practices on how to deal with this? Do I have any hope it will go away? I'd be happy to set up some new bishops as penance if that would help.

I did a quick search of the event scripts for "remove_trait value = kinslayer" and did not get any hits. Another search of just kinslayer confirms that there wasn't any event that was going to remove it, sorry.

Honestly, though, I guess it makes sense. It's not like you can take back killing a spouse, brother, father, etc.

Best you can do is either wait for that ruler to die, assassinate him, or cheat kill him. It might be fun to ride it out, though, a lot of times the excitement and interesting situations in this game comes from trying to muddle through these kinds of problems.

Kinslayer trait will not go away. So you are stuck with it, and have to live with the fear and hate of your family (especially).

Kinslayer is a very nasty trait, and thus you should be careful about murdering family members :)

sin_events.txt, event 5300, "Your sins have not gone unnoticed" has a chance to remove kinslayer.

To complement an answer: this event can happen only to Catholic rulers.
(And although the event itself isn't rare, its trait removal success-rate is low.)

While kinslayer can offer a lot of fun, it's even more fun to be excommunicated and insane kinslayer and see how your realm crumbles. Sometimes CK feels too easy, but good collapse can make it feel challenging, when it can take generation or two before the damages are fixed.

Speaking of complicated personalities (and high standards of Catholic Church)...
