KNIGHTS OF ST. JOHN

There was talk that Range was considering making Connaught a vassal for the purpose of releasing them. But, Range thought better of it. Connaught would remain a province of the Knights of St. John.

Shortly after the peace talks, Range ran into now Major General Benjamin Forsythe of the British army.

Major General Benjamin Forsythe.

Their meeting was strained to say it mildly.

“Why Range?”

“You didn’t think you could stay that close to our country did you?”

“And, what of Connaught?”

With that General turned and stormed away.

“WE could have taken your British isle!”

Just because, Britain was out the war that didn’t mean Sicily was too. They now had to survive the onslaught that was our two large armies in Italy. The Sicilian army didn’t stand a chance.

Their provinces fell.

Range didn’t even think of annexing Sicily, even if he could. Instead, he made them a vassal of the Knights.

Ah a new vassal. Keep the infamy lower for more acquisitions in Anatolia and the Levant

So, true...with the little time left...as it is, I'm going to take on a whole lot of bad boy points...and, expect a lot of rebels. I so wanted to take it as a vassal, but it wouldn't look good on my resume if I take a Catholic country.

Meh, never bothered the French, Austrians or Castilians.

I like beating up on the British, Castillians, French, and Ming. I don't think I actually avoided beating up on anyone when the situation for it of course. I'm really a very non-violent sort of guy. "Yeah...sure."

Entry 62

As we approached the end of our journey, Range laid his plans on the table to the Grand Marshall.

“Sir my plans are to take as much of the coast line, along with as many provinces as I can to afford religious pilgrims as much safety as heavenly possible. Now I know, some of the provinces between Judea and Thrace will still be either Spanish or British hands. But, I can’t see why they won’t join our cause to protect those same pilgrims as they journey through their territories.”

“One thing…before you continue on this quest…don’t go too far, or I’ll reel you in. I don’t want a holy war…”

“I don’t plan on burning any Mosgues, churches, or temples. If you don’t mind me saying, my feeling is the only way anyone can truly worship God is the way their soul tells them to.”

“Neither the less Range…mind my words.”

Cairo…

2ih4dog.jpg

A quick war was called for…Range didn’t want the whole world coming against us. At least, not yet.

As quick as a gust of wind, the coastal province of Cairo became ours.

Entry 63

We have come so far from the island start where a religious order was making a last ditch effort to cling to island of people that were not of the same culture, nor religion. Range’s daring plan had us on a mission that would either bring us to glory, or crush us from the very weight that we wished to make free.

The plan unfolds…

They didn’t stand a chance.

Range had been warned by the Grand Marshall. But, just how far would someone would have to go to have gone too far?

“Might it not be better to hold off taking provinces?” I asked Range.

“Why wait?” He replied.

From Hawaii to Cairo…our reach is far.

Far.... But not Complete

That's for sure, my friend. I will never be able to clean the board. Still, I'm hoping to wipe out the Ottoman Empire.

I'm dropping by Range to just let you know that I've skimmed all the way through this AAR, I've only read through the fist 6 pages thus far (but I couldn't help myself but take a peak at what else has developed). So now I get to return the favor in a different way...

I could never come close to accomplishing what you've done with the Knights!

Crush the Ottomans!

"They're going down...as God is my witness...I shall not rest until they've been vanquished."

That's not true my friend. I know you, and others, could do even better.

The face of the world was changing.

122kvu9.jpg

Our colonization was complete.

2ujpeh4.jpg

Our enemy was a mere shadow of what they once were, as their threat was being cut back even further.

20l1i7a.jpg

But, none of us would ever dream of that happening...Thrace was no more thanks to the Algerians.

And, as we turned our gaze toward what was now the Ottoman Empire we all wondered...were they ever as strong as we made them out to be?
As if they were some sort of supermen...all of Europe shook from the mere mention of their name.

Then, the dust settled.

Range kept telling us “this is only the beginning”. Things are about to heat up.” In the end, the infamy will be the real killer.

Entry 65

They gathered one night at tavern in Powhatan, several well to do and learned men.

2n9jibo.jpg

Major General Benjamin Forsythe

Forsythe was not in uniform when he attended the meeting.

“There comes a time in every man’s life,” said Forsythe as he rose to his feet, “to either follow one’s own conscious, no matter what fear might swell up within in his heart…” He stopped and turned to stare at the back of cushioned armed chair to listen as a man seated in that chair finished his thoughts.

“…or, fall prey to the whims of another.”

“My words exactly,” said Forsythe, turning back angrily, to converse with the others in a low hissing tone, “I thought we were alone.”

“So, did I,” said a second man.

“Don’t mind me…as you can see I’m just warming my bones before the fire.”

Unable to stand no more, Forsythe stormed over in front of the chair to learn who their visitor was. Seeing and recognizing the man, he straightened up knowing his fate. “Range…”

“Benjamin…what you’re preaching is treason for these other men,” said Range, as he rose up from the chair.

A few of men in the room thought about escaping, but stopped when they heard Range continue.

“Don’t try to run away,” warned Range. He then revealed several pistols holstered about him. “I assuredly will cut down three, or four of you before the rest reach the air outside. Then, you will have to deal with my men who have the place surrounded.”

“And, if they gave themselves up…what then?”

“Well, it depends on them…to decide what is nobler…to die for a cause that serves no good purpose other than to serve an English king…or, to live to see what you truly need and long for come to fruition.” Range then drew one pistol, pointing at the stomach of Forsythe .

“Anyone else Range, I’d fight my way out. But, somehow I know one day we’ll meet again. Maybe, we’ll even be on the same side.”

“No hard feeling…but, why you?”

“I can truthfully say with a clear conscience that I'm thankful for the years you've afforded me through time travel…but, I've grown weary...All along I guess I knew this day would come; maybe at times, I longed for it to arrive. It’s time to end my journeys.”

Range then called out, “Captain Southworth!”

The captain, along with two men then entered the room.

“We’re arresting this man, Major Forsythe, as a spy…take him away.”

As for the other men in the room, they weren’t arrested. But, Major Forsythe was hung the next morning…as a favor to Forsythe no trial was necessary…and, the execution served as a lesson to the others. The result was that there wouldn’t be a revolution in North America for two scores, or so…when a great civil war was waged to free the slaves.

Good news, one more to go…

2gt0qyh.jpg

“I don’t like the Byzantium empire…nor do I trust them," said Range, time and time again.”

“Why do you say that?” asked Southworth.

“Maybe I’ve seen too much not to know the dealings of certain people…sometimes you wish you could overlook things…For some, you can't...while others, you can forgive them for almost anything.” Range was of course referring to the Byzantium Empire on one hand, while thinking of Benjamin Forsythe on the other.

5ozj21.jpg

Remembering what the Grand Marshall had said, Range wondered what he could do to get around a direct order.

“Great Timing!”

“Finally…”

166el8w.jpg

What do we do,” asked Captain Southworth.

“We go for it!”

Great AAR Range! Been following since the start, and even went back and read a few old ones. You've really got a thing about turning Theocratic OPMs into colonial empires haven't you? ;)

Thank you for your kind comment, and for following along. As for OPMs, I find they're a lot more fun...especially, at the start...there's so much uncertainty surrounding survival.

Your theocracy sure turned out a lot better than by pagan one.

I can't believe you are fast approaching the end date! Hmm... I see the Byzantines still hold Thrace!

Btw, I've played as the Knights before, and I got stomped within 9 years! :p
