Chapter 1: Long March Down
An army of some three thousand men marched down through Mexican high plains. They were tired and smelly and some of them were dying of malnutrition. The core of the posse consisted of zealous Texan soldiers well equipped in heavy armours. It's still shrewd in mystery how the cult of Falling Star got suddenly so many followers in the catholic heartland. They ranks were followed by even hungrier and badly equipped militias hoping to survive the journey. Many of these hard working men were zealots of the religion hoping to see it reach their homes in northern Mexico or Panama coming from all of Mesoamerica to help. Most of the remaining animals were used to carry sick and weakened soldiers, only few riders cycled around the pose on horse's back.

"It's been months. We were promised an empire and here we're starving to death far from home."
"Be patient my Texan friend, we're almost there."
"How much longer?"
"Three of four months, maybe six."
"Six months?"
"It's really difficult to say as there are hundreds of miles of thick jungle ahead of us."
"Maybe this is the best time to give up, maybe we can conquer Mexico."
"Don't give up now, You already know hunger, the worst of our enemies. Down in El Salvador, they will welcome us as liberators."
"I'm sure of that."
"You can doubt, but look at our leader, he's not a normal man, he's already a legend."

Both soldier look at the man leading the troupe. He's well in his thirties with fully dressed in pompous plate armour of Texan knights.

Captain George Rusk used to be a minor noble holding a single ranch close to Dallas. He had no relatives to speak of. Countess Elvira of Dallas had granted him the land few years ago for his deeds in her service. He still drove for her with the rest of Dallas Cowboys from time to time. One they, they were ambushing a gang of cattle thieves, when he came across a book written in Spanish. Back at his ranch he managed to translate first few pages and he got hooked. This piece of writing offered him, what he lacked in the Revised Testaments of Catholic Church. It gave him a sense of meaningful sacrifice and one's own worth.

02.jpg

George became obsessed with an idea, that he could be the savior of distant lands and perhaps lead a huge troupe back to Dallas one day and show Countess Elvira, that he was worth of her attention.
What convinced him to definitely leave his home county behind was a strange encounter, which happened to him one night. It was already dark, when he got notified about a pack of strangers entering his domain. He immediately ordered to saddle the horses and charged into darkness to stop potential robbers.
They could already see shadows in distance and George fired first shot from his crossbow. He managed to hit one of the invaders in leg before noticing a shining star falling right in his trajectory. He quickly stopped his horse and a second later the projectile exploded right in front of him. He spent the whole rest of night and a good portion next day watching the miraculous fallen star cooling down.
One his men, loyal man of faith Wes brought him a cup of coffee and some breakfast beans. He found his lord with alien metal in his hands. George took a sip.

"Wes, Do you ever doubt? Have you ever wondered that We should thank not only Jesus but also an archangel for taking care of humankind?"
"I'm not sure, I understand you, chief."
"We survived the end, the apocalypse thanks to the Archangel sacrificing himself and thus preventing our end. Now, I have a very evidence as He sent me a piece of his body yesterday. Take this ore to town and let them forge the finest sword possible. Spare no expense."
"Got it, boss. Promise me to take few hours of sleep after you're done with breakfast. It was a long night for you."
"I'm not tired, touching his body energized me."

Men and women present to see the miracle quickly renounced Catholicism and became loyal to Falling Star and soon various war veterans and other people unhappy with their life started visiting the holy site. It didn't took long for George to convince Wes and the latter started spreading the word to various leaders of rat packs and minor nobles. Finally, one day a sizable army gathered and they decided to march to El Salvador to forge a unified realm for all faithful.

02-2.jpg

Captain George has two artifacts at his disposal to prove his claim rightful. Ha has a nice antique box, which is hiding smaller pieces of raw angelic ore. This precious possession is carried yet in another chest and only his inner circle has keys to the chest. Every seven days, the host stops to perform a mass. The chest is opened and Fallen Star displayed during the mass. This way, every follower of Captain George has a chance to see the holy relic.
The second relic rest most of the side on George's side. But he's always ready to draw it and use Sword From Heaven for a just cause. It's a beautiful weapon, a showcase of craftsmanship, a relic perhaps more fabled than Captain himself.

For majority of his life, Rusk had an inner circle consisting of five lieutenants. Even back under Countess Elvira he quickly managed to turn himself into leader of his five childhood friends. Some of them accompanied him on his long Journey.
Red, Ike, Wes a Justice drove with him for as long as he could remember. Red was an illegitimate child of a Dallasian noble. He could talk his way out of every situations and if things got hot He could handle his bastard sword just fine.
Ike was a distant relative. Unlike George, he couldn't use a coat of arms and fancy name. These cousins were always good asset when it came to dealing with various criminal elements. He wasn't as good strategists or fighter as his noble relative, but he could use his mace and cared about well-being of soldiers just enough for them to stay loyal.
Both Wes and Justice grew up in a orphanage. Their parents both died during a Comanche raid. Justice always wanted revenge, Wes found his way in faith and became a priest. After Captain George forced him to adopt ideas of Falling Star, he became distant. He even called it a heresy once.
After they set out, Wes stayed behind to convince Chieftess Violet of Little Mo to join them. It goes without saying that he probably didn't give it his best shot.
Royce and Earl worked at Rusk's ranch for a while before entering his inner circle. Royce was a former cattle thief and Captain George mostly used him as a scout and spy. Earl had shown a good amount of zeal becoming a self-proclaimed battle priest as he was a decent strategist and appointed commander of one of the regiments under Captain George. Captian quickly started favouring him and when he needed someone replacement for Wes, Earl was an easy choice. Other lieutenants agreed.

The host marched for over a year. They crossed Americanist Airman under General William Stinson, where they could admire highly organized army and frown upon degenerated values. The journey continued through countries dedicated to Segrado Corazón. Populations were fairly scattered and friendly there. Sometimes Captain Goerge and his inner circle prayed for these poor people after looting them. Especially Justice, who was recruited orphaned children to help them with their difficult legacy.
They crossed Mexico. A land of many great cities and temples. Captain Goerge fell in love with Mexico, their might and celebrations and started thinking how to bring a piece of it down to El Salvador.
Finally, they entered jungles inhabited by savages performing human sacrifices. They avoided any contact with locals. That resulted in hunger. The host cooked most of its horses and still men kept dying. It was the hardest stretch.
One day, Royce returned with his scouts and a captured man of mercantile look.

"Who is that?"
"A merchant from lands of Mosquito. He said we were close. Only two more weeks of marching."

Captain George noticed a scroll hidden in merchant's coat. He pointed at it.

"What is it?"

The merchant handled him the item. Captain George took a look at it.

"Hm, news from Brazil. This means we're indeed close to our destination."

Hello,
this is my first attempt at this. I wanted to write an AAR before but I never got around to collecting screenshots. Also, I prefer to roleplay a lot, but I kind of failed with Captain Goerge as it was fun to just conquer.
I returned to CK after a prolonged hiatus (some four years) and found it significantly slower due to new features like Societies, interrupted by a whole lot of events. I also found this bloated version even more engaging and immediately spent a sleepless night as a Bolghar Khan.

Ofc about week later I drifted away from Vanilla and into mods.

Being able to start as a colonist is a fairly new feature, which needs some balancing, but It def started as something new and cool. After the End is a flavourful mod with many religions and I hope to take a closer look at more than one of them as Falling Star is on the dryer side.
This means I probably will switch characters at some point. I don't have any particular goal with this either. Maybe to keep writing as flavourful as possible.

Hopefully, there aren't too many typos as english is my second language and I know I struggle with it sometimes.

You can expect updates 1-2 times/week.

I need to credit Deaghaidh's recent take on the mod as one source of inspiration and intense reading of Dunadem's People of the Forest as another.

Chapter 2: The Foundation of Estelaria
Who was this madman marching with an army through the thickest jungle to liberate people of El Salvador? Liberate from who? Duke Salazar Delgadillo of Salvador didn't know what to do. His people, they seemed to be happy. He wasn't an usurper and his reign was far closer to benevolent than tyrannical. He asked his advisors for help. Three of the were panicking, the rest dismissed it as hoax.
Why was he attacking us? We're faithful followers of Falling Star he asked himself many times and couldn't come up with a satisfying answer. One day he asked his spymaster.

"I know that Americanists have this old belief called Manifest Destiny. It's a belief that they're destined to expand and rule over lesser cultures or something along that line."
"But they say he's not Americanist. He's a Texan following same beliefs as us."
"Indeed. But there's something about him what reminds me of this. He's a greedy man, who managed to find gain in fanaticism."
"What can we do to stop him?"
"We can try to fight him, use difficult terrain in our advantage. But it probably won't be sufficient as he has double our numbers."
"Send out the word, try to rally my vassals and allies."
"Your commanders already rallied all men available. We're short on reliable ducal associates."
"What else can we do?"
"Pray."

07-1.jpg

Captain George Rusk haven't seen bright light for weeks. Trapped in endless green tunnels swimming in sweat in humid conditions this end of world usually offers. Some of his soldiers left, cursing him for taking them in hell.
It was an ultimate victory to leave groves and see poorly defended holdings of El Salvador. Closed gates couldn't befuddle his experienced eye. He turns at Ike.

"How many soldiers do you see?"
"Not many."
"Exactly. It won't take long before they give up and open us gates. Let's break down camp and star cut off all roads."

And really, the garrison of San Salvador is shocked by the numbers alone. Foremen of the castle decide to smuggle their leader out and give up. Duke fearing for his life agrees.

07-2.jpg

After capturing not only San Salvador but also other holdings in the province and looting all of them properly, many of Captain George's men are satisfied and their looting is as aggressive as it could get as they feel that a compensation for months of deprivation is in place and that it should properly satisfy all of their vile needs. Sometimes, one would forget that they were led by zeal in order to unify and spread their faith.
Royce spends several days torturing prisoners more for pleasure than to get information on enemy's position. After all his scouts found it before the siege was over.
Captain's reaction is quick. He decides to leave only a skeleton garrison behind in captured holdings and moves the body of the host to attack. He doesn't really care about strategy. He knows that numbers are on his side.
That leads to a serious tactical mistake as his men attack uphill in thick undergrowth. If he attacked from another way, more of his followers would make it out alive. Many Texans die because of this poor decision and their corpses heavily outnumber dead Chapínes.
It doesn't really matter as numbers and experience are on his side. Soon, poorly equipped Salvadorian soldiers are overrun and scattered.

08.jpg

A single battle decides the war. The duke sends out an emissary. He offers his realm and his head, if Captain George and his men stop looting settlements of El Salvador and start governing them instead. Even with George crushing Delgadillo, he would expect an absolute submission. But what comes next is a material of legends.
Several riders observed the battle from top of a hill. Now, they ride down and approach mister Rusk.

"We observed your power and the Archangel certainly led you here. Your relics are a sign, that you're a determined believer. We offer you rule over all realms devoted to Falling Star. We can't give you no land. Not even San Salvador and other counties under Duke Delgadillo. You however will have an absolute support to curve it out for yourself from lands of our enemies."

Royce steps ahead.

"George, that offer looks like a trap. I would behead the duke and take El Salvador."

He steps back and Red steps ahead.

"Cough, cough."
"Are you alright, my friend?"
"I'm afraid not. It's possible I'm going to die soon."

He steps back and Earl without making any steps starts talking.

"We should take it. Our host still has sizable numbers and it won't be too difficult for us to defeat one of the weaker nations around. We wouldn't have a lot of control over our vassals, but they would give us a wast economical base. Also, we're not here to murder or take land from are brethren, are we?"
"I agree with that. Also, it's better strategically when we can retreat in our own territory as it's easier to keep supply chains running."

Adds Ike. George nods and moves his attention to Lt. Justice as he expects him to add his two coins.

"I don't really have an opinion of my own, but I agree with Ike and Earl. It's nice to have some covering your rear."

For George, It's an easy decision. He didn't come to rule a duchy. And so he agrees with the offer.

Quite a surprise for the natives.

Chapter 3: War and Feast
Even before being able to inspect his new realm, Emperor George went to war. He was in an uneasy situation with strong vassals and no domain to call his own. His personal army was slowly dissolving as most of his followers were tired and wanted to settle down. Hospitable people of Estelaria welcomed them to their settlements, where some of them became religious heads of communities and others helped with hunting and farming. The core of his host was transformed in three mercenary legions roaming lands more for honor than money. Red convinced George to start assembling a small personal retinue of bodyguard to protect him from an eventual uprising. Ike was sick of humid conditions and soon started suspecting locals from various plotting. His problem was that most inhabitants of the realm couldn't speak Texan. He knew some basic Spanish but He was from making it a good convincing tool. Soon after he died in terrible pains after he refused to eat local produce for several weeks and only ate old military rations they had brought from Texas. His body founded early in the morning laying in a twisted position next to his bed.
It wasn't difficult to pick the new member of the inner circle, which became an official council of the newly formed empire. There were two suitable candidates. Yitzchak, an educated Jew, who appeared in front of George few days after he had become the emperor. Hearing about the new prominent figure he hurried to offer him his skills. The second candidate was a Chapín count.

14-2.jpg

The choice ended up being more political as George wanted to keep his new vassals close. Both Chapín and Miskito people talked their own languages. The former used a vulgar version of Spanish with many Nahuatl words thrown in. They were good Christians and the most peaceful of nations under Estelaria. Two of the most important Chapín vassals were the Count Salazar of San Salvador and Count Cirilio. Keeping the latter close helped George to establish strong control over their lands in early days of Estelaria.
The most powerful group of people under Estelaria consisted of Miskito people. King Jonathan II. of the legendary Sulley house ruled over a wast kingdom of Mosquito, which included all Mosquito coast as well as Nicaragua. Fortunately, he wasn't a warrior and his army consisted only of few poorly equipped regiments.
He disliked George as he ended a long period of independence. Sully were a proud house and Miskito people were considered a regional power. They used their own language and even liturgy was in Miskito. Jonathan II. and several other nobles learned basic Spanish for diplomatic negotiations and that was about it.
Jonathan's heir, Princess Clara Alice was a different case. She was educated in foreign languages and a great strategist. In George, she finally found a worthy partner to debate about war. It is rumoured that her father wanted to start an uprising numerous times and that she always convinced him about strategical advantages of staying in peace.

13-2.jpg

In a never ending search of allies Emperor George found this to be the right time to get married. Earl, now his court chaplain, advised him to marry a daughter of a local lord. Later that day, George had a meeting with his chancellor. After they finished all necessary affairs, they sat down and chatted about foreign news. Most of these didn't concern Estelaria and didn't have any effect on it, but they still were interesting stories from faraway lands. Mormons led a holy war and Muslims declared a jihad for Florida.
They discussed various matters like that for about an hour, when George changed theme.

"My loyal Cirilio. As a ruler I'm in need of diplomatic relations. You know that better than anyone else. The best way to form a strong bond with a vassal is to marry their daughter or sister. Do you know about any suitable matches?"
"Your words are wise, but there's always a second side. You can get an ally in one of your subjects, but the rest gets jealous of them and their new position. For a ruler, it's better to look outside."
"Truth indeed."
"King Wenceslao of Mexico has two daughters. He's of a famous house and being part of his bloodline is a privilege."

Count Cirilio winks at his ruler.

"Cacilda is of exquisite beauty, fragile and paler than her sister."
"Mexicans are of different religion than us. More than god they praise various false idols."
"That's true, but I reckon that the alliance is worth religious differences and you sure will be able to show her the light of Falling Star."
"You're right. Having an ally in north might prove of value to use."
"If you may I'll arrange a delegation immediately."

George waves at him and Cirilio leaves the tent.

19-3.jpg

To celebrate his new wife and the new alliance, George organized a feast. He invited all of his loyal Texan commanders and courtiers and all important nobles of the realm. This uncovered his unsure position as many declined his offer and stayed home. To make them regret their decision he made the feast as opulent as he could in field conditions. He refused local Miskito musician and recruited a country choir instead.
He had red hunt down a massive jungle boar and he spent lavishly on food and refreshments. It was a memorable event.
In the middle of the fiesta a courier arrived. George took him to his tent, gave him a cup of wine and asked a waited for the courier to talk. You man swallowed.

"The war with Hakim Osman is over. We destroyed their army in battle of Ojojona and captured their capital shortly after. Hakim will arrive tomorrow to bend the knee."
"Wonderful news, my boy. Join us in a celebration as I'm a married man now. I'll have more work for you tomorrow."

He sees the courier off the tent. Outside he waves at Ike. Ike enters the tent.

"My lord and friend, what a splendid celebration of your wow."
"Thank you, Ike. Unfortunately, I need you to saddle your pony. I'll need you with the army tomorrow."
"I heard the war's over."
"One war might be over, but another is about to start."

Both man throw dramatic looks at each other.
