Admittedly, I haven't been following this very closely, but one of the more interesting ideas for me would be how late game intersteller Empires function, and perhaps collapse. I'm more thinking along the lines of the Imperium faction of Warhammer 40K, where you've got an incredibly powerful faction in control of vast territories, but on the decline against multiple factions (or the Late Roman Empire, if you want a real life example).

I suppose the main thing that piqued my interest in this was the RPS article where they say:

By the late game you might find that one of your science ships has become the Event Horizon, ripping a hole in reality to a dimension of horrors. Before you know it, you’re scrabbling to militarise in order to survive a fight against invaders from beyond and you’ve accidentally fallen into Warhammer 40K.

I'm sort of excited about this prospect, and sort of concerned it might be an on-rails event like the Aztec invasion from the DLC for CKII, where it's just events like this that provide a challenge.

Anyway, the whole game concept seems one of the more ambitious that Paradox has attempted, so good luck to the design team.

Yes, as a fan of W40K I would like to see it happen.
We see similar functions in CK II where there are limit of our demesne and subjects. We also see there are autonomy limits at EU IV for colonies. Both of these functions could work in space settings. Colonies that are far from your home world may rebel, vassals may rebel, that kind of thing. Culture may change, technology may be different, the point is that colonies that are far from your home world should be troublesome.

Maybe tie this to how you govern your colonies? Maybe have "liberty desire" like EU IV? Colonies that are allowed to govern quite freely gets bonus, while colonies governed with tight grip have higher production rates but have larger rebellion desire. Maybe tie this to tithe level, like in W40K?

And like 40K, it is up to your intelligence agency (or the Holy Inquisition) to root out rebellions.

There's no culture in game as far as I'm aware, but certainly there seems to be a happiness level, so some sort of internal revolts and civil wars would definitely be interesting.

Centralisation/Decentralisation of colonial control would also be a good mechanic to be included.

Hmmmm, looking through the previews it does seem like it wouldn't be *too* much bother to mod it to resemble Warhammer 40K. Obviously not the entire galaxy of 40k (with the billions of planets or whatever), but perhaps a scenario taking place in Ultima Segmentum, with the Imperium faction being split between the Space-Marine Ultramar region and the rest of it under direct Imperial control. The rest of the factions all have outposts in Ultima, if I'm remembering my lore correctly (aside from the Dark Elder maybe).

I'm not signing myself up to make it, but we'll see what the game looks like when it's been fleshed out a bit. Might be interested then.

We gonna have undeveloped nations which might become powerful and shatter old empires. One of the devs said that: "Minor race can become a major player"
