Hi, I just bought the Empire Bundle on the Microsoft store and installed EU4 and all DLC. When running the launcher I get the error described in the title (and see attached image), and the game thinks I don't own any DLC when I run it. Further, upon running the game I get an error (as seen in attached screenshot) where it thinks it cannot sign in to my Microsoft account (despite the fact that the launcher does actually show that it is signed in and linked to my Microsoft account).

So to summarize:
1) Launcher gives runtime communication error
2) Game says it can't sign into Microsoft account (despite showing that it is signed in and linked)
3) No DLC is available

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

No real ideas here, sorry. Does your firewall record having blocked the game or our launcher?

You may have firewalls in your internet modem/router, even at your ISP. How did you bypass, with a VPN perhaps?

Do you have any other computers you can test this on, whether in the same location or elsewhere?

Alternatively can you try this computer in a different location?

To bypass the firewall I connected my PC directly into the ISP-provided modem instead of going through the router. Typically this is all I need to do to verify that connections are working and not getting blocked by my firewall, for example setting up my FTP server, Apache server, accessing external VPN, etc.

I can definitely try testing on another computer fairly easily! Another location might be trickier since this is on my home PC and I recently had to send my gaming laptop to one of my developers to facilitate his work. But anyway, I'll keep you posted! Thanks for the prompt help.

Hi, as a bit of an update on this I finally did manage to get this to work on one of 4 machines I tried. I suspect at least part of the issue was that on the machine it did work on, when attempting to download through the Microsoft Store it instead directed me to download the Xbox App and then download the game through that. This did not happen on the one machine that actually was able to run the game (without DLC), nor on the 2 that failed to even download it due to problems in the Microsoft Store.

So it may be that the Xbox App is somehow the lynchpin of all of this. Nevertheless, nearly one year after purchase I am finally able to at least play the game on my wife's horrible laptop ;)

Lesson learned - don't buy things from the Microsoft Store!!

Thanks for your help!
