I recently decided to reinstall Stellaris, and the game fails to launch.

- Other Paradox titles such as Hearts of Iron 4 and Crusader Kings 2 are able to run without any issue whatsoever
-I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, deleting the local files as well, to no avail
- I am not using mods
- I have attempted launching without any dlc, to no avail
- Windows has been updated
- Windows Defender has had the program added to its list of exceptions
- Windows Defender ransomware is disabled
- Running the game in borderless, fullscreen, or windowed makes no difference
- Restarting steam or the machine does not alter the outcome.

No error log or crashes file is created in the documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folder.

If I attempt to run the game directly from the Stellaris.exe file, the splash screen will display for a second, then the launch presumably fails, but does not trigger any form of system error. Running the program as administrator does not alter this outcome.

Has the game ever run successfully on this computer? Or never?

Please go here:
And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

Also if you have FRAPS or the MSI Gaming App or Rivatuner installed, disable it as it clashes with this game.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Reactions:
The game has not run on this machine before, as it is relatively new. Other PDX titles are able to run without error.

x86 and x64 installers run, no change.

I do not own FRAPS or the other mentioned software, so that is a non-issue.

DxDiag file attached below. Pxd settings is also attached. The file Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs does not exist. I have included an image of the Stellaris folder in lieu of this.

The game is crashing with a Windows error c06d007e, which is not a common one and I don't have a known answer for it I'm afraid.

May as well update that nVidia driver to August 2021:
Then reboot, and run this Windows repair tool:

Does that make any difference?

Apologies for necroing the thread, but I have discovered new information regarding this problem.

The update that specifically breaks the game appears to be patch 2.4. The launcher update itself appears to somehow be related to the problem. I was having a similar problem with EU4 and reverting to before the launcher updated allowed the game to be playable, if outdated. This problem does not occur at all in HOI4, which is able to use the updated launcher and latest patch without issue.

Given the other information in this thread, are there any ideas on what might be causing the problem and how to fix it?

Sorry, I have no more idea on this problem now than I did back in August! I don't think I've had any other reports of that exact error since then.

Exit the Windows app and run stellaris .exe directly from File Explorer. I assume that also fails, any Windows error show? If that does fail then the problem cannot be anything to do with the launcher, as that is not involved.

Can I get new copies of all those files I asked for in post #2 please.

And please run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here too, thanks.

I am having a nearly similar issue. In my case I had played the game before. Then the next day it refused to launch. I got the game through Steam. I uninstalled it, then installed it through the launcher. I was told by a friend that this might fix it. It did not. I am going to try a earlier version of the game and see if that does the trick.

If it does not help please make your own new thread, with full problem history and system details. Thanks.
