Outline
When I first started this game in 1936, I wanted to play a historical German game. However, my game turned out completely different and now I find myself in control of all of Europe and Africa. I'm about to embark on the biggest invasion I have ever tried in this game: invading the USA. I intend to play until the endgame date, 1964.

Europa-September-1948.jpg

Europe

The past decade has been one full of glory for the Third Reich. After the war over the Pommeranian corridor and reclaiming their rightfull lands in the east, the Germans looked west: towards the old democracies of France, Belgium and the Netherlands. After a 2-month campaign that brought about the destruction of the biggest continental power in Western Europe, the war in the west settled into a 4-year stalemate, also known as the Second Phoney War. German forces landed in Ireland in 1941, trying to break the stalemate, but were overwhelmed by British forces in Belfast and had to evacuate the island. The First German-Irish War was the first major German defeat in Europe.

A Balkan alliance between Yugoslavia, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria was completely destroyed and the Balkans are now dominated by the great Hungarian Kingdom and the Italian Empire. A last Allied attempt to halt Axis conquests in the east, by getting Turkey into the Allied camp, was quickly crushed and soon afterwards both Nationalist Spain and Portugal sent an envoy to join the Axis.

In 1944, after the Second German-Irish War in which Ireland was liberated again and united with German support, Hitler issued the orders for Operation Seelöwe III. It was seen as a last desperate attempt to conquer the British Isles, something that had tried twice before. If this operation failed, London would become the first city to meet a new German weapon: the Atomic Bomb.

However, for reasons no-one can explain, the entire Southern coastline of England was abadoned! Seizing the opportunity, 3 German Panzerarmee's landed on the Southern coast of England, quickly making their way to London, liberating England and Wales, and after a short 2-week campaign the whole of the British Isles had been conquered in one of the easiest campaigns in the entire war. The British still hold some minor footholds in Africa, but those will be dealt with once the time is right.

To celebrate the occupation of the British Isles after the long Second Phoney War, and the still strong Nazi-Soviet Alliance, Hitler stunned the international community by legalizing the KPD, the German Communist Party, and Stalin by doing a similar move by allowing a National Socialist Party being set up on their soil. In return, the Soviets were allowed to annex an old Axis ally: Finland.

Afrika-September-1948.jpg

Africa

After the conquest of Egypt and the seizure of the Suez channel by Italo-German forces in 1941, the Italians spent years fighting their way back into Ethiopia and to the border of the Congo. However, twice they were thrown back by large Franco-British forces, so in 1945 Hitler issued a decree that re-established the Deutsche Africa Korps. During the Spring of 1945, a spectacular invasion of South Africa was launched with just one Panzerarmee, under the valiant command of General Paul Ludwig Ewald von Kleist. After establishing a friendly regime in South Africa, two more Panzerarmees were landed, who began the long conquest of the Congo.

Now Africa has been divided into three zones: the Italian protectorates of the East and the North, the free nations of Middle Africa and the Vichy protectorates in the West.

Asia-September-1948.jpg

Asia

In the autumn of 1942, Japan, desperate after loosing several strategic islands to the USA, decided to try its luck on the Soviet Union. How wrong they were. After just 6 months all of China had been overrun by the Red Army, and now the Soviet collosos is pushing into Indochina from two directions. The Soviet Union was brutally attacked by the British in 1944, which resulted into a similar brutal conquest of India, which was the last industrial basin for the United Kingdom after the loss of the British Isles. Lucky for Japan, the Soviet Navy is virtually non-excistant, so they shouldn't fear any invasion in the near future. But the Americans are still in the area, even though they're pretty far away after the occupation of the Phillipines, and their navy is a serious threat to the Japanese.

America-September-1948.jpg

America

After the conquest of the British Isles, Germany has established several military bases in the Atlantic from where an invasion of the USA can be launched, such as Bermuda, Andros and Newfoundland. From discontent about how the war was being run, several British colonies in the Americas have revolted and establishes Socialist regimes. Such nations include Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana (which got annexed by Venezuela soon after their revolution). As you can see, a German expedition has landed at Miami to check out the strength of the US forces in the area. It proved that one Panzerarmee definately isn't enough to subdue those American swines :D

The Axis

Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Nationalist Spain, Syria, Malta, Cyprus, Iraq, Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Rhodesia and Nyasaland, Rwanada, Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Nigeria and Central Africa.

The Allies

Australia, Brazil, Canada, Communist China, France, Liberia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA, Venezuela.

The Comintern

Soviet Union and Mongolia.

Chapter 1 - Part 1 - Carnival In Rio

During the cold morning of the 4th of October 1948, a new directive was sent from the Führer chancellery to Wehrmacht HQ at Zossen: "Carnaval in Rio".

Soon a meeting was called by the Head of the General Staff, Ludwig Beck, to discuss this new directive. It was clear to everyone what was expected of them. New maps were ordered, printed and delivered; the General Staff spent hours discussing the options available to them, but this is what they eventually came up with:

October-1948-Invasion-Brazil.jpg

A three-spearhead amphibious assault on several coastlines of Brazil, with 2 Panzerarmees (one Panzerarmee = 3 tank divisions, 6 mechanized) on each front, should be enough to secure a safe bridgehead in all 3 main areas. After the landing sites are safe enough for planes to land, 4 Luftflotte's will land and dominate the skies of Brazil. The invasion will be launched from a military base established on the Cap Verde Islands, which is part of the Atlantic Defense System (a chain of islands spread across the Atlantic to monitor the movement of the US Navy).

Speed is vital in this invasion, because If the Americans have time to send in reinforcements from the North, we might have to retreat shamefully like during the Miami expedition and the First German-Irish War.

In the meantime, the strategic air forces were ordered by Hitler to avenge the shameful defeat at Miami: a Luftflotte was dispatched to our base at Andros, and soon the population of Miami would experience something they'd never forget...

New Years Eve

"Dieser Amerikanischer Schweinen sollen nimmer das Größ-Deutsche Reich zum schande machen!", a powerful voice towered above immense crowds at the Neurenberg Rally to mark New Years Eve, 1949. The voice promised further victories, rallying the continuing support of the crowd infront of him. The future of the German Reich was a prosperous one, and final victory was finally insight. But he also warned that the forthcoming battles would cost the German society alot, but in exchange they'd receive new lands once the Second Great War was over: Lebensraum in the West.

But that day was, in reality, still far away. On Christmas Day 1948, Field Marshal Phillipe Pétain, leader of the Vichy French, had died of a heart attack. This left a power vacuum, with no-one able to fill it. Slowly the Vichy French state was decending into anarchy, with streetfights between Free French sympathizers and Loyalists. To prevent the riots spreading into German France, the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht decided to launch a pre-emptive strike and invade the non-occupied area of Vichy France.

Invade-Vichy-France-1949.jpg

The Vichy French proved to be, as expected, to be a token opponent for the might of the German Army: after just one week all forces had surrendered, and the remnants of the once vast French colonial empire was now under German control. Africa was now completely under control of the Axis. All of France was now under German control as well, except from the former Italian provinces of Piedmonte and Nice, which were now returned to their rightful owners.

And the new order in Africa:

newyear1949africaneworder.jpg

And spring around the corner, which means it's time to party...

Have you cheated to stop SU from attacking you? I thought they would attack if Germany didn't? Especially when you have no forces on the border with them.

I'm contemplating doing the same thing as you (although i '43-44 instead), and invade USA, but I'm not sure if I should take out SU first.

Nope, I haven't cheated the game to stop the SU from attacking me. Around 1943 the Allies attacked the Soviet Union, and they later DoW Japan. So I guess they were too busy to attack me?

Anyway, the troops that have invaded Vichy France were the garrison at the German-Soviet border. I figured that pulling them away from that "front" for a week wouldn't do much harm :p

I'd say it really depends on what state the SU is in. If they haven't got any war, it might be wise to station alot of forces at the border. But as things look right now, I doubt it that they'll invade me (and If they do, I've built a huge defensive line at the border to stop them or atleast slow them down.)

Witzlebenlandsinnorthernbrazil1949.jpg

It's 3am, February 26th. The first landing of Operation Backstein was due to begin in one hour. General Erwin von Witzleben and his III. Panzerarmee were just the beginning of one of the biggest invasions the world had seen up till now.

firstlandinginBrazil.jpg

The Brazilians, under General Kruel, fought bravely, but were vastly outnumbered and outgunned by the far superior Panzerarmee of von Witzleben. After just 2 days of bitter fighting, the first bridgehead had been secured.

invasionofrio.jpg

The Brazilians had been moving troops to the north to meet von Witzleben and his III. Panzerarmee, the XI. Panzerarmee under General Eicke launched the second landing, aiming directly for the heart of Brazil: Rio de Janeiro. Weakened by the troopmovements to the north, the Brazilian capital fell quickly.

twobridgeheadsestablishedinbrazil.jpg

With the first two objectives secured (establishing the bridgeheads and capturing the capital of Brazil), the two Panzerarmees new objective was to race ahead, cutting Brazil into two in the process. The Kriegsmarine is preparing itself for the task of constantly supplying new troops to the front, and the Luftwaffe is on its way.

amerikakorpslandsinBrazil.jpg

The newly formed Amerika Korps lands at the third and final landing spot, to deliver the knock out blow to the already wavering Brazilian army. Almost all important cities in Brazil are now under German control. The General Staff is already starting to think about making plans for the invasion of Venezuela, another nation that dared to declare war on us.

The first flag of Neu Amerika.

September1949-NeuAmerika.jpg

The subjugation of Brazil and Venezuela in the past campaign have led the Führer to issue a new decree, proclaiming the establishment of the first German colonies in Neu Amerika. The first Lebensraum had been captured, but this was only the beginning. The first thing the new German authorities did, was to order infrastructure improvements and the expansion of the industries.

September-1949-New-Cabinet.jpg

Hitler in the meantime was forced to reshuffle his cabinet: former Chief of Staff Ludwig Beck, after 13 years of faithful service, decided to retire. Hitler replaced him with Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, hero of Egypt and conqueror of London. The Chief of the Army, Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch was forced to retire, in order to blow a fresh wind through the army.

XX-Panzerarmee-Deployed.jpg

And the XX. Panzerarmee has been formed under General von Manstein, and is heading straight for the port city of Cholet, where they'll be shipped off to Neu Amerika. A new age for Germany lies ahead...

Are you playing with 1.04? Using tanks to do amphibious assaults seem silly

Tried the same strategy as you, and left SOV alone. Kept relations at +200, still, they DoW'ed me in jan 44. It does make Barbarrossa more of a challenge though :)

I started out playing 1.02; haven't moved 1.04 yet because I was afraid it might corrupt the savegame (If it doesn't I'd love to hear :D)

It might seem silly to do amphibious assaults with tanks, but I've always preferred doing it with tanks because it allows me to directly move land inwards and use Blitzkrieg-like tactics. Up till now that has worked fine for me :)

Has the Soviet Union declared war on anyone in your game or are they in a war against anyone? Because in my game they DoW'd Japan in 1943 (after being DoW'd by the Allies), which probably explains their strange behaviour (this is the first game I've played where the SU hasn't DoW'd Germany by 1945).

I'm going to try Barbarossa after the USA though. Should be a huge challenge by now :)

Ecuador-Declared-War-1949.jpg

A great shock went through the German top when this message was delivered to the German ambassador at Quito. It could not be. Hitler was so upset by this that he spent two weeks hiding in a cave in the Ardennes forest, eating nothing but Belgian chocolate.

When he finally came back to his senses, he ordered the destruction of Ecuador and it's Columbian allies.

Colombiaannexed.jpg

Ecuador-Annexed-November-1949.jpg

Aaah, the wonderful world of international politics.

Back in Germany, Hitler has ordered all Belgian chocolate to be confiscated and destroyed. The two weeks he spent in the Ardennes eating chocolate has settled him with a severe case of diarrhoea; apparently the Belgian chocolate had was a few months over date, but he believes it was a plot to overthrow him.

January-1-1950-Landing-in-Canada.jpg

Operation Elk, the conquest of Canada, has entered the first stages of preparation. However, the Wehrmacht has deemed the operation impossible If they don't succeed in landing 60 divisions by the end of the first day, with another 50 coming in the following 2 weeks. The Kriegsmarine has granted the Wehrmacht its request for a huge expansion of the transportfleet.

If Operation Elk succeeds, Operation Eagle (the invasion of the USA) should follow almost immediately afterwards to capitalize on the momentum gained by the conquest of Canada. Several operations have been cancelled to meet the requirements of Operation Elk, such as Operation Icarus (the invasion of Iceland) and Operation Barbarossa.

All looks bright for the German Empire, except for those Belgian chocolates...

From what I know, it doesn't corrupt savegames. I've been through 1.2 - 1.4 with no issues. In 1.2, armour is an invincible weapon, and that is why you can do amphib assaults with no problems. I believe this is fixed in 1.4. AI is also better in 1.4, especially US ai

In my game, SOV was at war with the allies, and took India before Stalin decided he wanted more

subscribed... good luck on invading the US, but it might be a good idea to launch Barbarossa before the SU defeats Japan

Chapter 2 - Part 3 - Oooh The Times, They Are Changin'!

Operation-Elk-Cancelled.jpg

15 January 1950

Operation Elk, the invasion of Canada, has been cancelled. In a move that has shocked the German High Command, Hitler announced that all preparations towards the operation must be put on hold. The Führer claims that the Abwehr have found proof that the bad Belgian chocolate he had, were infact planted there in that cave by the Communist Internationale. He believes that it was a plot by Stalin to assassinate him. Hitler has announced that the previously cancelled Operation Barbarossa should be rebooted, with preparations beginning straight away. The invasion has been planned for May 1952.

16 January 1950

Hitler's next move was infact a not so suprising, but still stunning one.

Ottawa-Nuked-January-1950.jpg

"Well, atleast that'll keep them busy until we're finished with Barbarossa." was the informal High Command's response.

German-Airbourne.jpg

The German Airbourne forces have also recieved orders for expansion. One of Hitler's dreams always was to launch a paratrooper assault on Moscow. This might become reality now... Anyway, the High Command is quiet sure Mj. General Ringel (who looks suspiciously alot like Lenin) will be happy to command the finest infantry force the German Army has ever seen.

Supersonic-German-Fighters.jpg

On a more technical note, the High Command reports that all German fighters have been replaced with new improved Turbojet Go-229 fighters.

New-XVI-Panzerarmee.jpg

The IV. Armee has been upgraded to Panzerarmee status, has recieved 3 Panzerdivisions and has been renamed into the XVI. Panzerarmee. It will take place in the Goebbels-line, together with 10 other Panzerarmees, and will be part of the initial Barbarossa invasion force.

Goebbels-Line.jpg

The very feared Goebbels-line.

PS.: Does anyone know until which year the Bitter Peace event works? If I begin the war in May 1952, will it still fire If I would manage (although very unlikely) to push the Soviets out of Europe by September 1951? Or would I have to conquer all of the (now even more) massive Soviet Union and annex it the 'proper' way? :)

PPS.: @Grimlin: Sorry I haven't responded earlier, but I always forgot to check the speeds between a tank division with anti-air brigade and one without. Please forgive me :p The anti-air brigade decreases the speed from 16 to 12, which is rather unfortunate when I think of it, and I have to be honest that I hadn't giving the speed matter any thought before. So I'm considering throwing all anti-air brigades in the bin and replace them with something faster. Thanks for pointing that out mate :)

Chapter 3 - Part 1 - The Fall of an Empire

October 1950

UK-Annexed.jpg

The once mighty United Kingdom is no more. The King has abdicated, the remaining members of the war cabinet have fled to the USA and Churchill is said to have died in a plane crash while trying to escape British India. Germany's World War 1 adversaries, France and Britain, are now all but extinct.

Democracys-Last-Leggs.jpg

The Japanese have launched Operation Mo Sakusen II, the invasion of the Australian mainland. The democracies of the world are running on their last legs, with only 4 Allies remaining: Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

Indochina-Winter1950.jpg

In Indochina and Siam, the Japanese are accomplishing amazing feats: severely outnumbered, the superiorly equipped Japanese have managed to pin down half the Red Army in the mountains and jungle of northern Indochina and Siam. However, without our help, Japanese defeat on the continent seems certain. Hitler has ordered that Operation Barbarossa must be launched before the Japanese have lost their strongholds in Asia. If possible, Operation Barbarossa could be accompanied by a subsequent Japanese operation.

Luftwaffe-Supersonic-Fighters.jpg

Further modernization of the Luftwaffe: the first Horton Ho. XIIb Supersonic fighters and interceptors have been taken into service, and have proven to be very capable. The entire Luftwaffe is now being equipped with these Supersonic aircraft.

The Goebbels-line has been further reinforced with another 5 Panzerarmees, totalling about 105 divisions at the German-Soviet border.

Guderian-line-finished.jpg

In the north, the Guderian-line has been finished. Once Barbarossa commences, about 30 infantry and mechanized divisions will try to cross into Soviet Finland. If these operations fail, they will retreat upon the Guderian-line and wait for reinforcements to arrive from Denmark.

Welthauptstad-Germania-Finished-In-.jpg

The modernization works of Berlin, started in 1949, are progressing well. Currently Berlin counts over 10 million inhabitants, and once the construction works are done it should be able to house over 25 million people. Hitler's plans to rename Berlin into Welthauptstadt Germania first met severe resistance from the Berlin population, but now the positive sides from the project are showing (unemployment figures in Germany have reached 0% thanks to these gigantic building projects), the population heavily support the creation of the Welthauptstadt. The Nazi party has already begun planning the celebrations to open Germania in 1952.

Chapter 3 - Part 2 - Revolution!

August 1951

The year 1951 has been a year marked by turmoil in the empires of America and Asia. The Soviet Union had been subjected to a gigantic smear campaign, secretly initialized by the Abwehr, which has inspired the oppressed masses in India and China to rise up against the communist menace.

Revolutions-Japan.jpg

The Japanese have seized the opportunity to re-establish their front and advance into China once more. They have landed at Hong Kong and are, after 2 years, finally back into China. The Red Army in China, cut off from supplies by gigantic partisan actions, have withdrawn into Mongolia and Korea, trying to reorganise themselfs.

Revolutions-America.jpg

The situation in the USA is even worst. The country is on the eve of a 2nd American Civil War, anarchy ruling the country. Still, the German High Command has decided not to seize the opportunity and let the Americans fight themselfs for a bit. This means we'll have our hands free for Operation Barbarossa, scheduled for spring 1952.

Panama-Channel-Captured.jpg

The Panama Channel had infact been seized during the Columbian campaigns of 1949, but only now was the German press allowed to publish about the conquest of the vital Panama Channel. The German Navy will now be able to send a steady amount of supplies to our Japanese allies, which we plan to support during Operation Barbarossa.

TibetBreaksFree.jpg

The People's Republic of Tibet have declared themselfs free people again, and have taken up arms against Soviet and Japanese oppression. Should be fun to watch.

SinkiangBreaksLoose.jpg

And the Democratic Republic of Sinkiang is on the loose as well.

NepalRevolts.jpg

NationalistChinaBreaksLoose.jpg

The Asian hordes are all reclaiming their lost independence...

TexasLiberated.jpg

Not only the Asian hordes are fighting for freedom. The Texan Republic, after over 100 years of Yankee oppression, has finally risen up to reclaim their independence and fight for freedom. Hitler has decided to send an ambassador to the new country, for this could aid us greatly in our struggle against the USA.

PS.: I haven't cheated to make the revolts happen. This is what genuinely happened after I put all the spies I had into the Soviet Union and the USA. Intelligence seems a bit unbalanced to me: the USA has its IC reduced to 14 IC, whereas they had 520 before the revolt wave. Same goes for the Soviet Union: their IC went down from 780 to 220. I might have to load the game as the Soviet Union and the USA to get their dissent down and to delete the rebels, to keep the challenge into the game.
