Archers of Helia have Elemental Immunity and a great many spells, including the majority of buffs are considered 'Elemental' spells by the game. Consequently they fail when you try to cast them without any particularly informative message.

This actually applies globally to other immunities, if something is immune to Death magic and you try to cast a Death buff/debuff on the unit, it'd fail.

It's fixable via modding, but you'd probably introduce unintended side effects (if you made all the buffs physical 'element', physical immune targets couldn't be buffed, etc)

I don't know that its strictly a bug, it is working correctly, technically - it just has weird and unintuitive side effects.

Now what does seem to be a bug is that you can pre-buff a precursor unit and then upgrade them to a god unit and they keep their buffs intact.

Ideally the Helia units would have 'damaging magic immunity' or something similar, instead of blanket buff immunity which typically makes them a worse choice than any other god unit, just because buffs are so important in late game combat.

I wonder, is there anything immune to life magic? If not, one could mod all the buffs to be life magic, like you said, and then no unit would be immune. I can think of units immune to all other types of damage, but I can't think of one immune to life.
If it worked, it would bypass the side effects you mentioned, and allow Helia units worthwhile.

Definitely, but you'd have to a) go through and check every unit in the game for immunities and b) change every buff spell in the game to life type instead of elemental assuming a) was to your satisfaction. All to fix one gods immunity :/

Not impossible by any means, I'm just too lazy to do it

Although... come to think of it, if you added all the spells to a mod, extracted the xml files with the unpacker and used any sophisticated text editing program, you could do a batch change from elemental to life (or whatever). Much faster. I'm still too lazy to look though :D

Another alternative is to change helia's units from elemental immunity, to something like 99% resistance. They would still be basically immune, but buffs would work.
I think I will probably actually make a mod for it now, since I've thought about it so much.

EDIT: Here it is! It really only took about 5 minutes or so, plus another 5 to test. Just had to change what 1 perk did.

Great success

I suppose the only downside is that now debuffs will work as well, but thems the breaks. Not like the AI uses them often anyway. Could be vaguely relevant against some monster abilities I guess?
