July 4th 1937
The cabinet meeting was tense. Lithuanian diplomats were still trying to improve relations with the USA after their adventures in Venezula. All things considered they were lucky the Americans were busy with their own problems. The military still couldn't supply troops in the overseas colonies and maintian a reasonable flow of oil which was barely a trickle due to resources diverted to keep the populace happy.
A new diplomatic crisis was about to unfold. A note had arrived at on Jonas's desk. It wasn't phrased in the most diplonmatic way possable.
"Ya boo sucks to be you. What are you Going to do about it"?
El Presidente Honduras
Knowing full well that they had diplomatic agreements with the Americans, and the pitiful state of Lithuanian logistics the Hondurans were being bold. There was only one acceptable response from Lithuania.
Lithuanian troops had been eqiped with the latest weapons. The result was predictable and didn't take long. The New Zealand navy also helped out with some transport ships as Lithuanian industry was fully engaged in builiding convoy ships.
The gamble payed off as Lithuanian diplomats had been making inroads into influencing US foreign policy and relations had been improving. How far will the Americans patience stretch though as the Monroe Doctrine gets flushed down the toilet? The Lithuanians decided not to press their luck for the next 6-12 months. The liberation of Honduras and its incorporation into the Empire did have one huge advantage. Resources had increased to the point where Lithuanians science was doubled.
And of course excellent wages were payed to former scientists from Venezula. Imperial troops once again pulled back to Bermuda and funds were made available for the purchase and distribution of fluufy toys and bananas to reduce the increasingly popular wars of liberttion the Lithuanian people were having to endure. Not that they had much choice, due to the fascist government, but oh well. More blueprints were purchased of the UK for oil and supplies while enough convoys were constructed to allow troops too be garrisoned in Venezuela and exports to continue. The South Africans were happy to help out.
