hi,

i have a problem to connect to a game server:

i play teh game for to weeks or so online with a friend without probs, than suddenly hoi sais that he cant find a game host on this IP. The host is not behind a firewall or a router. Hes directly connected to the interner vie cablemodem. i have no FW too. I have reinstalled the game but it doesnt work. i only can connect via lan to my other computer. in a connection log i can see that the game communicate, but aver 10 secs the errormessage comes.

System 1:
p4 3.0
1024MB
Provider (german) T-Com buisness
location of the system: Germany/NRW town: willich
DSL 3MBit over an server with an firewall wich connect to the inet.
Firewall off and on
kaspersky found no virus
tried without antivirus

System 1a:
Athlon xp 2800+
512MB
Provider (german) T-Online
location of the system: Germany/NRW town: willich
DSL 1MBit over a Router

System 2:
P3 1ghz
512MB
Provider: ISH cable iternet 2mbit
location of the system: Germany/NRW town: neuss
direct connection to Internet via cablemodem
no firewall

System 3:
AMS Sempron 2200+
512MB
location of the system: Germany/NRW town: Krefeld
Provider QSC Buisness 2mbit up and down
connected via Router (routerfirewall)
new installed system
GDATA Antivirus (kaspersky/Bitdefender) found no virus

on Computer 1,1a,3 ive used the same cd to install the game.
Computer 2 a Version from a friend

Connection between System 1 and 2 works fine, but on one day ive the Problem that pc1 cant find a hostgame on the ip from pc 2. we have tried a while and suddly the game connected.
So we played for 3 days. but than (i think tuesday 23 of march) we cant connect anymore.

1. If i use a port scanner i can see that the game opens the port and connect to the other ip. but than he breaks the connection and the nogamehost error occured. My serverfirewall sais that some packets are dropped.

2. BUT REMEMBER i tried 4 PCs with differnt connections with and without firewall.

3. AND I CANT CONNECT to any other player in the valkinet too. if tried with usplayers and german players...

i have found some other players with the same prob.

4. if i connect over lan all works fine.

5. i think i have some experience in networking and firewalling because its my job do solve such problmes for our customers (but its not my mainjob, so iam not perfect :), please giva all the ideas you have.


SO PLEASE ANYONE HERE FROM SUPPORT WHO CAN HELP ?

and please every other users with the same problem report it please

i guess it can't be that simple that host changed ip? if host has dynamic ip it can change during a reboot and reconnect to internet.

If u try to connect via VNet at least u can roll out problems with dynamic ip. Seems its more a client problem IF other players could join VNet hosted game but not you.

When trying to join VNet game u familiar with host? Does host has other players in and what does he reports back about your faliure to connect to host?

Things that work for a while and then not as u describe it, is worst kind of problem..

if u NOT done some changes in you system meanwhile could be that your connection quality is altering. Try some test sites on the net who test your connection speed but also your quality of line u have. Latency is a killer and could also alter in your connection, best way to find that out is simply to ping your host and compare the results with other players.
 
ive checked the ip from the host first via telephone and ipconfig.

ive tried 4 pcs. with differnent confiigs so i think a configproblem cant be the reason.


ive tried to conenct to a host were other players already connected.

AND: i can play any game i like. Counterstrike, farcry, neocron2, Superpower 2 without problems in internet. my cstrike latency is lower than 25ms.
i can myke servers for superpower f.e. too.

I can browsing around the world. all runs fine. but NOT HO2.

i will get crazy about that. ive tried on a new installed system. its so crazy...

is their any copyprotection ? i mean after i cant connect the first time i installed my original game from the original game on a other machine and join with two players at the same time the yalkyrienet to test to connect to my own host (other computer, other public ip, other provider)....

well, im a bit intrested in your problem since one member in a group im playing in complained he couldnt join my game.. i hadnt load any scenario yet and there was only 1 player except me (host) that was connected and in.

he eventually could join after some retry, this was VNet so i though it may have something to do with that server redirecting traffic when buzzy.. but if more players have same "come and go" problem its likly something else.

one thing is that he (CitizenX) runs another OS than me, windows 98 and that maybee cause some interference, using other drives or whatever.. discussion at:

so im a bit curious.. what OS do u run Unic?

PS. Maybee its something you install several instances of program from CD, but i would be a bit suprize if it allowed different computers in your own LAN and not via direct IP via Internet. If they do i would welcome it.. testing things in your own LAN is one thing but using same copy for other players computers (if that the case) i dont understand your motive and what kind of bussiness you in for.
 
hmmm i think of one other thing.. have u installed any kind of mod like the change end date on top of your orginal and 1.01 patch? Some kind of version controll of text files is add as new feature to stop cheating in mp games and u cant join others game.

if ya want we can try launch a test game today or tomorrow.. just send me a pm here.

i'm not a support guy but i'm curious why people have connection problem and think MP problems get to little attention from 'official' support.

That was realy unreal

ive solved my problem for my home computer..

the reason for one of the other testcomputers was that the provider changed something and some ports arent reachabel for some hours ( tried in this hours :().. the provider fixed it...

the third testcomputer in my company dosnt connect becauce one of our pcusers redirected some ports from me to his pc without saying a word.

and on my Computer: Very strange. I played a week without problems. than the problem appears. i have nothing changed. But now i have to redirect the ports. Before allowing was enough to join (not for host, but i do not want to host). I think its a bug in our Server software, because if i run the game direct on the server with direct connection i still have to redirect from server ip to server ip... really dont know why...


so thats all... so if someone have a connectproblem tell me, i tried everything. i also know how to place a "h" in the field were you have to enter the hostip (in german version it doesnt work because the host hotkey) :rolleyes:
 
i use Windows XP/2000 now runs fine :rofl:

and i found out.. u can try to connect over a pizza to hoi2host.. ur post still will move from tech support to Multplayer support without other comments :D

yea, support wash their hands of the mezz mp:s somtimes ends up in :wacko: and in some degree i understand it :D

but mp-games is to fun to just step-side after a minute fruitless try, and u got some dedication i say.. hope more people will follow
 
yes. if i can find on a box nothing about multiplayer i dont spend money for the game. A singleplayer game makes fun only for a week or two.

there are so much great games without multiplayer...like galactic civilizations or Port royale 2. But no multiplayer... somtimes i cant believe it..

so... now i will hope to get much fun in MPing Hoi2 :)
