I live in Australia and want to buy EU. I'll probably do it over the internet, but should I buy the UK version or the US version, and what is the difference between the two? I'm under the impression that you can't patch the US version with the UK version and vice versa, so there must be at least some difference. Do UK patches come out quicker than US patches, or at the same time?

I hear there's a difference somewhere but I don't think it matters gameplaywise. Patches come out at the same time.
The UK version was released with patch 1.06, the US version has patch 1.07. You can't patch the US version with the UK patch.
Since there is no US patch, we don't know how long it will take for it to be released.
The swedish patches go through some kind of copy-protection at Vision Park, the swedish publishers. This usually takes about a week. The german patches comes right away. Thank god I've got the german version

The latest patches get delayed so they all come out at the same time though. Well, they did that for 1.07c anyway.
I bought the game over the net. I originally ordered via chips and bits in the US, but they were too slow with this game, so I cancelled that order and bought from Software First in the UK, who sent the game same day , sunday!, and I got in my postbox the next friday. Plus ot was a LOT cheaper than chips and bits would've charged. So don't delay, order today, via the UK, and start to play. Can't comment on the patches etc, I downloaded the UK 1.07c patch from this site and it worked fine. The UK game I got was I think on 1.07.
Am about to head off to the UK, so will persuade my Scots friends to renew their plans to annex England.. or perhaps just sink the buggers.
Softwarefirst is the best distributor to buy the game off. AUD$77 inc postage.
