Happened on a 1.05 game.

I started a new game after patching to 1.05.

After september 1112, I was unable to load any save game. The load process seems to lock at the 'Initializing script' step (process at 97+ % activy according to Task Manager)

I tried a previous save, played, butwas unable to load subsequent saves..

I did no editing of save file, nor used any cheat code.

Eventually I reinstalled a clean game + only 1.05 patch. Did not work :(

Sorry for my bad english (yet my game is english version still, ordered directly at paradox)

So you first had a pre-1.05 install that you patched up to 1.05 and then it started to crash?

As a general advice it´s best to do a clean install before applying a patch, i.e. completely remove the previous one, install the game anew from the CD and then run just the latest patch. Since the problem you have experienced seems like an unique one it might have gotten solved with the reinstall. Naturally the save that has already been corrupted can´t be retrieved, but just new ones are less likely to get corrupted.

Please let me know if you run into similar problems with a game started after the reinstall.

Ok I found your reply only after my second add :)

So you mean my problems may be due to the fact that I started my game on a incrementally patched game ?

Okay I'm skeptical but I'm willing to believe that new games won't be corrupted. I'll copy my strange one somewhere so that if other users experience the same problem I'll be able to send them to you...

If you want them anyway to debug load, I'll be happy to mail them to you.

A bit sad to start over...

Thanks for the super speedy answer though !

True, it is a long shot. But such has happened before with CK corrupt saves and it takes a lot of effort to track down the reason for the corruption. After all it can´t be found from the save file or the debug load of the save file.

If you want them anyway to debug load, I'll be happy to mail them to you.

Nice.

Thanks for the super speedy answer though !

It´s getting 4 o´clock and I finished all my work tasks for today before 12. As always, it´s boredom that provides best customer support :)

I have a simillar problem with version 1.04 (polish).
I've observed that games saved before year 1199 load normally, but after this date they hang during "initialising scripts". I have not installed any patches.
A friend of mine had the same problem, but IIRC at a later stage of the game - something like mid XIV century.

I am having the exact same problem with Croatia c. 1200+.

It would be rather not-good to be unable to open saved games once you finally are getting into it.

Any resolution on this rather significant defect?

-Peter Corless.

p.s. Other than this error, this is a game that I am thoroughly enjoying. Croatia has spots of control spanning from the Straights of Gibraltar to the Crimea, Sicily and Malta, and the Baltic. I'd love to be able to get the saved games back.

More information to troubleshoot the scenario death issue.

More information...

Rather than select one of the saved scenarios listed, I selected the autosave to see if that was any better.

During the "Initializing Script..." period, Task Manager reports that Crusaders.exe takes up 95-99% CPU. Crusader Kings, under the Applications tab, is listed as "Not Responding."

It's occupying 68,712K

I have no knowledge why it's pegging CPU and Not Responding, but there you go.

One of the things I am looking at for my Kingdom of Croatia_1219_June_1.eug was that it seems to be beyond 32mb... 32,157 kb to be precise. The same with the autosave.

I was wondering if the file size is having some sort of problem when it reaches 32 mb?

Going back and loading up the Kingdom of Croatia_1209_April_9.eug, which is under 32 mb, I was able to load the scenario just hunky-dory.

If that is the case, then this would be a major bug, and rather easily detected, yes?

Quite a shame, though, because I was having quite a good time of it. I had gotten so popular that nobility were gladly accepting to be my vassals.

There could be something about the script-loading that causes it to run into some sort of non-linear event.

Is this fixed in the .05 update? If so, then I presume the other scenarios will be broken?

Was the game in question started with the 1.05 patch?
Nope.

I have 1.0.0.1.

I presume the next thing you might tell me is to go get 1.05 which fixes some bugs.

By the way, interestingly after going back to an older saved scenario I was able to play through to c. 1242. It was going pretty good -- I had somewhere over 30,000 combined score having done a Reconquista against southern Spain, took over most of central Africa, and was marching merrily through the Holy Lands when the game started to crash a few times. I was even able to restart with the autosaved game (36 mb file), but then it got to a certain place and crashed again.

It being way past my bed time I'll be finishing up for the eve. But I thought you might want to know the rest of the story.

Should I get the 1.05 patch? And if I do, will I have to start the game all over again?

-Pete.

Ugh.

Alright... So I got 1.05. I tried to load one of the scenarios. The autosave. That crashes within a few moments of getting all started up.

Oh well, I'll declare that one a victory and start over. Croatia had spots of conversion stretching all the way from the Baltic to the Atlantic to Africa and the Holy Lands.

It was a great dream while it lasted!

-Pete.

Naturally you should have used 1.05.

Games started with earlier patches aren't compatible with 1.05, but luckily the ones you start with 1.05 are much, much, much less likely to get corrupted than with earlier patches.

Hunh.

Today, I have had the dickens of a time with the program crashing in the middle of an early Co. Sligo campaign. I'm starting in 1066, and by 1079, it's utterly crashed.

I started again, and now I'm up to 1110 without a problem, but I had to delete all the old scenarios and go back to the beginning.

Now the issue is that I have tons and tons and tons of diseased people in my one-county court. It's not going away.

I suppose the only thing to do is to outbreed the disease.

Yet these are all very different problems. The original bug is kaput.

Onwards to adventure!

-Peter Corless.
