I'm playing Aegon's conquest and there's this odd feature (bug?) where recent vassals secede upon declaration of war. It's more than a little annoying to have to constantly re-conquer them, and I'm not sure what function is causing it, so I've just been saving, quitting, and re-loading as that vassal & offering fealty to resolve the problem. However, despite clearing caches & disabling autosaves, the game is still getting hung up when it tries to load the new save - which is in about July to Oct of 7998. I don't think it's a memory issue, since I have 8GB of RAM on a 64 bit system.

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening, and how to fix it?

That's the mega war mechanic,

All the LP's will be put back under the IT after a few days.

What if the Lords Paramount is eliminated? I wiped out the whole family at Harrenhal & now there isn't any LP for that region. Do I have to appoint one, or will they eventually swear loyalty to the Iron Throne directly?

It's the mega war system, they are not really independent and once both you and they are at peace anyone supposed to be your vassal will become your vassal again.
