Loadup freeze - I'm clueless

While initializing sound, the game freezes and with him the whole PC.

I first tried reinstalling and it didn't work.

I've read other similar problem threads, tried changing the avi to avi.old, same with music and sfx. The resolution is 1024 x 768 and the music is OFF in the settings as well. Windows XP. The drivers old, but it's the latest that HP provided. Game used to work before...

As no other response are there yet I´ll ask you the obvious questions:

Is your game Crusader Kings alone or with Deus Vult?

If the latter, is your game patched with the latest beta patch of 15.10.2008? Which you can get here:

Have you tried setting color-depth to 16 bit ?
