This is not the first time this bug has been posted, but every time I see this issue posted, a support dev, or forum member, posts "There's a problem with cloud saves, try turning them off."

THIS IS A DIFFERENT ISSUE.

Please don't post "turn off cloud saves", it's not that, and you'll derail yet another thread attempting to get this fixed. Cheers.

Game Version: 1.0.3

Operating System: Windows 10

Platform: Steam

Mods: Bug occurs independently of mods being activated or not, but mods are usually in the game folder of most users who've reported this

Pain threshold: This bug makes the game playable only if you never turn off your computer and never close CK3. Functionally it makes the normal mode into a non-optional one-sitting Ironman mode. I'd rate this 9/10 for frustration, as the game is amazing and so close to being playable yet so far...

Description:
  • After a few years in game, trying to load causes CTD
  • The only saves that ever load are during the first few years of the campaign (first 20 years or so)
  • Seems to be unrelated to any noticeable game state/event, but occurs in every game started
  • This happens whether mods are on or off
  • Happens whether cloud saves are turned on or off
  • Transfer of last_save.ck3 doesn't work
  • Manual saving at regular intervals does not stop saves becoming unloadable
  • Verifying integrity of games files has no effect
  • Possibly unrelated, but crash reporter seems to always fail to upload the issue after the CTD
  • Transferring the save file to another person to load also causes a CTD
Reproduction: Currently, it seems the bug is independent of all in-game variables except the passage of time. And it happens every time. :(

Save games:

I've recreated this several times now, and it doesn't matter if the games is saved manually or autosaved. I've attached an Alfred the Great playthrough without mods enabled.

"Autosave _1" 1 January 872, works fine
"Autosave" 1 January 873, causes CTD

Same problem. I can't load a saved game, because this menu is missing. I can just choose a new game, but while is it loading during a 'Waiting for a reply from the Server' message the game is not able to load.

...that's not the same problem.

This issue is when you load a game and then CK3 crashes to desktop. It is not the "waiting for server" bug, nor is it the cloud save bug.

Everyone who gets this on LOCAL SAVES only, please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach the problem save there, AND the last_save.ck3 that preceded it.

Sorry for that problem!
