Hi everybody,
Ive been following the lock-up thread in here for a while. i have the same problem as the guy in the topic. Though unlike his, my games tend to lock up totally at random. But seemingly whenever the action starts to get "hot". But i have a decent computer so i dont think it could be a memory thing.

Ive done the renaming of the folder, the changing to 16 bit and no anti virus fixes and it still locks up at random. (when i say lock up, i mean a total lock up, AKA i cant open up processes and shut it down via windows, windows doesnt respond to anything, I just have to pull the plug basically) The computer has been scaned for adware and virus and have also came up with nada.

Here is the huge diagnostic thing ive seen posted as well. any ideas or help would make me mucho happyo....till then i just have it autosave every month to get me though the games i wanna =)

What else are you running in the back gound, what icons are in the system tray?

there are 3 icons that run in the tray when i usually play.

1) Volume
2) some warning thing saying F: No card inserted in HP photosmart 1315 printer
3) safetly remove hardware (for some reason it wants me to remove my printer lol)

The programs that run in the background while i play via the task manager window are usually (i dont know what any of them are lol): not sure this will help but whatever

McVSEscn.exe
IPClient.exe
MpfTray.exe
tfswctrl.exe
MpfAgent.exe
Explorer.exe (i know that one!)
IntelMEM.exe
RUNDLL32.exe
mcvsshld.exe
ybrwicon.exe
CFD.exe
mcvsftsn.exe
wdfmgr.exe
ALG.exe
SVCHOST.exe (6 of them)
SMSS.exe
CSRSS.exe
Winlogon.exe
Servcies.exe
LSASS.exe
Spoolsv.exe
AOLacsd.exe
CTSVCCDA.exe
IAANTmon.exe
mcvsrte.exe
mpfservice.exe
nvsvc32.exe
McShield.exe (closing this locks up my computer..lol)

Well, without actually more info about the .exe files themselves (which directory they are in, etc), it's kind of difficult to figure out what belongs to Windows itself and what's additional.

But, for starters, these are all part of Windows:

SVCHOST.exe (6 of them)
SMSS.exe
CSRSS.exe
Winlogon.exe
Servcies.exe
LSASS.exe
Spoolsv.exe
Explorer.exe (i know that one!) (Wanna bet? It's your desktop, not internet explorer :D)

These are most likely your virus scanner:

McVSEscn.exe
mcvsshld.exe
mcvsrte.exe
McShield.exe (closing this locks up my computer..lol)

As for things that are fishy here. I don't like to see rundll32 in that list, and 6 copies of SVCHOST is a bit much as well.

To determine more properly what does or does not really belong here, you should do the following:

Run regedit.
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Open SOFTWARE
Open Microsoft
Open Windows
Open CurrentVersion

Highlight the "Run" key, and select "export" from the menu. Choose a filename and save the contents. Then post the contents of that file here (it will be plain ASCII). Then we can sort out what exactly gets started, how it's called and where it starts from.

A few of the things listed in there are things i shut down before i start the game manually because I assume it has no effect on the game and takes up memory (examples being the yahoo, aol stuff, hphmon# stuff as well)

Let me add that the last 3 test runs on very fast 44 camp as switerzland ive done. All 3 have crashed at 0:00 during the day in the game....maybe fluke, but just something to add.

PS none of them have made it to 1945 either so it happens pretty quickly.

Well, you've got a lot of stuff installed there, but nothing in there looks terrible out of the ordinary.

As for your observations, 0:00 hour is the most likely moment that something can go wrong, as that is the moment when events are checked, AI's do their calculations, etc.

Two suggestions do spring to mind:
1) Try to run on normal speed for the moment. That would slow everything down, giving the AI more time to do whatever it needs to do.
2) If that doesn't help, try disabling the McAfee virus scanner temporarily, just to check if that one might be interfering. Virus scanners can be quite intrusive on your system. ;)

If both of these don't do the trick, we need to delve deeper.

I did what was asked.

I ran the game at normal speed with the hands off cheat and the message windows cut down to just appearing in the log same 1944 start as switz, went to take a shower, by the time i came back the game had shut down with the xp windows error reporting thingy.

2nd attempt i ran it on very slow, same starting settings except the virus scanner and its componets were shut down, went to dinner, came back to it locked at 0:00 again and only on June 3rd so it didnt run that long at all, game time wise that is.

The lock ups are all at 0:00 but the dates are totally random. but usually within less then a year of game time. Computer was defragged yesterday as well. It isnt too much of a big deal, i just have it auto save things monthly...its just slightly annoying having to restart my computer every now and then, and im afraid one of these hard boots is going to mess something up sooner or later. Plus it isnt fun being terrified everytime the game clock nears the dreaded 0:00.

Ok. The actual error message from the Windows XP error reporting box would be extremely helpful in tracking down what your problem is. Do you still have that? If you didn't make a note of it, it might still be in the event log.
