So I am fairly regularly getting lock-ups in my current game.

The phenomenon I am seeing is that the game will not advance any more days from the current day and will not allow me to save either. I've seen this very rarely before - but it has happened to me 4 times tonite.

I'm using 1.05. I'm playing as France and very near the end of a WC game in 1635 or so. The save files are quite large at around 4 MB. There is quote alot happening in China - were my troops are mostly fighting due to China's revolt events triggering now.

I've already tried pausing/unpausing, changing speed, opening the ledger and the menu, and even alt-tabbing out and in. No, I am not stuck at the 'Start Game' screen before some wiseacre asks. ;)

The problem is not exactly reproducable - it hasn't stuck on the same day any of the 4 times it has locked up and it doesn't seem to be an event based problem either.

So any thoughts would be appreciated!
 
Would you say that the clock stopped? Ie that you still had control over the mouse but time did not progress? in that case you have a known bug which will be fixed in 1.06.

Meanwhile there is an way to edit savegame to avoid this... go through and increase the tradetech on anyone below tradetech 3.

Ok - this fix didn't work.

I went thru and editted everyone to have at least a trade tech of 3.

The game still locked up.

So I trade embargoed everyone in the save game, and deleted my merchants from other's COTs, and their merchants from mine.

The game seems to work now - but it is far from an elegant solution. As I take COTs, I'll have to edit more - argh.

Now, I have alot of refineries - around 185% or so trade efficiency (I said it was a WC game!). So I'm guessing there is some specific number for a difference between my trade efficiency and other's that causes this lock up - do we know what that number is?
 
No, but I'm assured the root cause of the problem will be fixed in 1.06, which is now entering early beta.
