Hi, I am experiencing the locking up issue that is mentioned on the sticky on this forum; the one that occurs on Vista that disabling multisampling is supposed to fix.
First of all, I did disable the multisampling and tried reloading a saved game where I knew it would lock. Reloading this save and letting it progress to the known locking up point still happens after disabling the multisampling.
My set up.
Windows Vista Home Basic, SP1
All my drivers are up to date.
I am using a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 video driver
That's all the settings I can think of to include. This is the EU3 Rome 'Gold' version. And I am running the latest version of the game as well.

Thanks for any help guys.

probably you are altering the wrong settings.txt file, due to Vista security. I suggest a complete reinstall to a new directory: First move any valued save games elsewhere. Then uninstall the game, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome - choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. I'm not sure if Rome:Gold includes the 2.1 patch, if not please apply that now, to the same new directory.

I still advise to try what i suggested.

Thanks for the try Andrew but there is only one Settings.txt file on my computer and it is the one I modified. I'm at a bit of a loss
If you have UAC on in Vista (and it is on as default) and you install the game somewhere within the Program Files directory, the file settings.txt will have been mirrored somewhere in \users\<your account>\.... when you edited it and Vista will read the original unedited file. You are absolutely sure that this is not the case? :)

Oh first thing I did was turn off that UAC garbage. I will try what Andrew suggested however. What can it hurt?

Update: I uninstalled it, wiped everything out. Reinstalled to a separate directory. Set the multisampling rate to zero. The locking is still happening. In short, no joy.

This is very odd as I have pretty much every other EU title there is (except for the medieval one). Any further thoughts from anyone would be most welcome.

Thanks.
