Hi all!

Having not played eu2 for a couple of weeks (longest absence ever!) I thought my association with the game had ended, since mp is difficult for me due to my location and 56k connection. However I came across some PBEM aars, and as I have time on my hands, apart from some weekends that is, I believe I can try and make a contribution. Are there any new/recently started games out there i can join?

Since most of the current pbems are situated in europe, how about one based in the SEA / East Asian region? Lots of small equally strong minors, and with the eep, there are a number of interesting events - though it'd be important to edit your nation's ai so that it would attempt to colonise during your absence - i'm sure there would be some possible house rules here i.e. china cannot be chosen nor attacked

Otherwise anything would be fine...

I must say I prefer playing in Europa/N.Afrika....but ofcause if everybody else wants something different....

Well, i suppose for a first pbem, i should play in europe - but if i can play in the other pbem that boehm's arranging, then why don't we give SEA/East Asia a shot? I think its got a lot of potential.

Firstly, Ai China would act as a guarantor against any extreme badboy action (A huge chinese naval expeditionary force can really whip your ai up :D )

Secondly, with the european powers untouched, the colonisation race would be even more intense - would you dare risk war against portugal for a chance to burn all their trading posts and claim their land?

With 1.05 i think there are still some decent events for the area, though better with the eep of course! Non selectable countries would prob include china, manchu, dai viet? However, the going for the first few turns would probably be slow, unless you're going for dominance in indochina rather than colonisation

China is too powerful - they also get an explorer early on. Even with all the other nations ganging up there'd be no chance.

Manchu can become china, so they're out.

Dai Viet is quite powered up with good leaders and a good player can take out quite a bit of indochina and china proper quite easily. Despite this, they are more selectable than china or manchu....

The others are pretty even. Japan and Malacca with their cots are balanced out with never ending revolts in the case of japan, and the tendency to attract enemies in the case of malacca.

Not sure about the indian states though, since i've never played in that area.

ok lets play in the far east/India then....I dont really know much about the area but "someone" compile a list of selectable countries...and then we just need to find out how to distribute them? ....first player picks first...or last player picks first (would seem fair since I would argue its usually an advantage to start off)...or somekind of bidding auction to select first country or play order?

Off the top of my head....

Far East:

Japan, Korea, Tibet

Indochina:

Dai Viet, Siam, Myanmar, Arakan, Taungu, Champa, Pegu, Luang Prabang, Khmer

SEA:

Malacca, Atjeh, Brunei, Mataram, Makassar

India:

Vijayanagar, Mysore, Hyderabad, Bengal, Jodhpur, Malwa, Delhi?

I think we should countries that can see each other - which means some of the indian states are out

Well if you want everyone to be able to see each other then just pick one area and that is where we play. As I don't know anything about playing these countries (I have stuck to Europe so far) I will let you guys pick where we play.

As for your list:
Luang Prabang doesn't exist in 1419 (assuming that's when we play...) -
which is actually a bit weird since it's set as a selectable country, which means the game crashes immediately after starting if you select them :)
(possibly something for next patch, but it isn't really important enough to do something about...)

Otherwise, for region, I suggest Indochina+SE Asia, they generally know each other.
In India, Delhi is quite a bit more powerful than the rest at start, at least until the Timurids/Mughal Empire go for them, which a player could probably hold off... anyway, excepting Delhi, India + Indochina might also work.

Any other 2 regions are probably too for apart

Sounds good to me! So how many ppl playing? How do you choose who starts? How long are the turns? Surely one of the more experienced PBEMmers can enlighten me :D

Is it good to select countries that start next to each other? won't we start annihilating each other?

First of all, I'm not an expert on pbem. I'm just posting this because nobody else did so yet.

Turns should be about 5-8 years, depending on how often players want to have a turn, and on how many players there are.

On who starts/picks what: Either someone (you?) decides based on player preferences.
Or every player picks a nation when it's his turn:
So if you pick first you have the first-choice advantage, also you can start expanding while no other player can do anything to stop you.
Any player thereafter can see which country has been doing well and which hasn't and so has the advantage of choosing a country which is already slightly ahead.

On selecting countries next to each other.... we want interaction and inter-player-wars, don`t we?

We could agree on a rule not to attack another player's country for the first 2 turns.

Then we need to think about whether we allow editing our .ai files and sending them along with the savefile so that our ai acts a bit more like we want it to.

Any other comments?

Been reading up the other pbem game that boehm's started - how about using the general houserules from that game? Inflation in this game would be tricky since it'll be quite a while b4 any nation reaches infra5 - any suggestions on this or just let it be?

If we want to get the ball rolling I may as well start by picking malacca, or alternatively, atjeh
