I have verified my game files (on Steam)

Yes (and i reinstalled vic3)

I have disabled all mods

Yes (kinda, I have none)

Required

Summary

Performance suddenly dropped from 30+ fps to 4fps. Even when game is paused.

Description

Short story long.
The perfomce always degraded in vic3, I never had a fast and smooth running game in the late game...but with 1.7.5 it reached a new all low. Not even war can make it lower.
In all other versions the performance only reached such low states, when the trade creen was open, but now I have 4 fps everywhere. Only the main menu is at normal 30fps. (it is quite fun to watch. Open main menu fps goes up, close main menu fps goes down.)
I tried a lot of things...more like randomly triing and sometimes finding ideas with google (like unticking "disable fullScreen optimisations)" and still nothing changes besides one thing: deleting trade routes seem to help (alot). But no trade routes does not seems a good option.
I'm pretty sure, this is caused by one thread running one of my CPU cores at 100%.

Steps to reproduce

Load attached save and feel my pain.

Game Version

1.7.5

OS

Windows 11

Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 64 GB RAM, AMD RX 6900 XT, SSD Raid 0 for Game Data, SSM for Windows

Please do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Vic3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Victoria3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Victoria3 or Documents Victoria3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add Victoria3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN
Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

THEN test with a new unmodded campaign.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here. IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up. Thanks.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log

You did not mention doing the clean reinstall I described, so I'm asking you to do that then make the settings changes I laid out.

If that doesn't help, I'm asking for new copies of all those files taken after the clean reinstall.

jesus christ...
I did three reinstalls and at least one clean reinstall per your definition. I even cleared the documents/victoria folder complete (after moving my save games). Why? Because this is not my first rodeo...
I also did the "disable fullScreen optimisations", but hey, I wrote it before. Also I'm running games per default without vsync and with 60fps (matching the 60hz of my display).

all the files I attached, are the last version after I tried everything. Not before, not in between. AFTER.

Did you tried to run my save? Do you have the same issue running my save? Did you anything else then telling me stuff I already did, because I used google and found hundreds of post from you telling people the same stuff?

If you don't tell me everything you did, I'm not to know that you did it! I have to cover all bases; not everyone knows how to do a true clean reinstall for instance.

I don't see a reason for this happening on this computer. Do you know what game version last ran okay for you? You could revert to that in the Steam betas tab for the game and see if it is still good. If it is not - that is, a game version that used to be okay is now slow - the issue must come from outside the game in some way.

I'm unable to download that save, for some reason - not sure why it ends in .log? Can you zip it up for me please? And, did you attach that particular one because the problem only occurs in that one campaign, or does it also happen in any new one you might start now?

that was...before the power bloc update...I think 5 months ago?
The issue is, that one core is running at 100% because of vic3 (vic3 consumes this one core alone). It just can't compute faster. The issue gets less dramatic when I reduce the number of trade routes.

I renamed it to .log so it can be uploaded here. just reduce the extension .v3.IAmASave.log to the usual .v3 . But I attached an .zip.
This is my only campaign in current game state, all others are old / done and won't work anymore. To test if a new one might get the same issue, I would need to start a new one and play for some hours.

I get a very low fps in that save game too, so I can only assume this is a bug, although a pretty rare one apparently!

Please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach that save there for QA to look into, and pass onto the developers.

Then just put that save aside, and try it as you see new game patches come out. Note that even if they find the cause of the bug, a fixed game version may not be able to repair that particular save though, it may just prevent it happening again.

Sorry for that problem!

I used the time over the weekend to play a second campaign and I just finished it yesterday in the evening without major issues (27 fps in 1930 as #3 prestige oh and 3 major world wars). So yeah, it is a save related problem as you stated

I will open the thread
